The rewards are increasingly given to those who have the connections as opposed to those who accomplished tangible results or any results for that matter. Therefore, it is thus that you can have campaign staff whose candidate's lose, yet they still make tons of money (think McCain's people and probably Romney's as well for instance), just as much as you have Wall Street executives who have been rewarded for doing nothing and even rewarded for failure.

Even the creative destruction inherent in capitalism is limited, and in fact can be rather restrained by this trend. Typically, government facilitates the problem rather then address it, even when it seeks to address it, they often end up making it worse.

So the guy makes as much as an above average (but not great) starting pitcher, and as much as that shlub, Flacco, and less than Tiger Woods.  So what?
