Following revelations of his involvement with prostitutes in an embarrassing scandal, embattled NY State Governor Eliot Spitzer (D) announced on March 12, 2008 at the Governor's NYC office that he will NOT resign and fight the charges, which results in the Legislature to start impeachment proceedings against him.

First, the NY State Assembly voted 100-50 to impeach Spitzer on the following on March 30, 2008
1. Obstruction of Justice
2. Perjury
3. Sleeping with prostitutes, which violated federal law by bringing them across state lines

Later that evening, Spitzer's personal belongings in his official State Capitol office in Albany were removed including his belongings at the Executive Mansion in Albany and the NYC/Manhattan offices' locks were changed. He gave a press conference outside his luxurious Manhattan apartment to numerous news reporters.

At 9:30 P.M. (EST), LG David Paterson (D) was sworn-in as NY State's 55th Governor inside the NY State Assembly chambers and delivered an address, promising to restore honor to the Executive Mansion and reforming state government.
