Speech being held at Niagara falls

Hello, citizens of Northeast! My name is SomebodyWhoExists, and I am proud to announce that I'll be running for Representative in Northeast Assembly as a member of the Progressive Union. I am very excited for this amazing opportunity to start off my political career here in Atlasia.

Platform:

Economic Policy:

I believe that the economy is driven by a strong middle class more than anything else. I support the abolition of the sales tax, a regressive tax which punishes those with lower incomes. To lift the tax burden on lower income families, there should be no income tax for anyone making less than 100K a year. I am a major supporter of labor rights, and am against any form of so called "right to work" laws

Environmental Policy:

The environment is far and away our most important resource, and protecting the environment is crucial. I support increased measures to conserve our natural resources. To protect our environment, strict pollution standards are needed. The environment is the air we breathe, the water we drink, protecting it should be a top priority.

Welfare:

I am against any cuts to welfare. A strong social safety net is necessary for the strength of our economy. With a strong social safety net, when the economy takes a turn for the worst, we can keep things from going from bad to worse. A strong social safety net allows our poorest citizens to receive the bare necessities.

Education:

Our most important investment is in our children, which is why I believe education is one of today's most important issues. I support a universal preschool program. Strong STEM standards need to be implemented  to give us a competitive edge and ensure our children are receiving a quality education. We must support public education and provide help to failing schools, not work against them with policies such as school vouchers

Crime:

While I support a system of universal background checks to keep guns out of the hands of criminals, I do not think other forms of gun control are an effective way of preventing crime. Instead, we should look at factors leading to criminal behavior, such as poverty, and find solutions to those problems.

Social issues:

I strongly believe in personal freedom. The Northeast must continue to stand up for LGBT rights, whether it be allowing them to marry or prohibiting discrimination in the workplace. I will oppose any measures to limit women's reproductive rights. I may not agree with the decision, but ultimately, it's the women's choice to make, not the government's. However, easy access to birth control, as well as proper sex-education in schools can reduce the need for abortions.

Bipartisanship:

Based on my platform, you've probably guessed that I'm a liberal. However, I believe that my country always comes before my party and ideology. Compromise is necessary to get things done I believe that it's vital to work with all parties, whether they're my own, the Federalists, the Labor Party, Democratic-Republicans, Cultural Marxists, Independents, or any other party. All of Atlasia's parties need to come together to advance this great nation.

You should really wait for a better day to start a campaign, especially here upstate.  Much too cold, no one wants to leave their house for work, let alone endure the cold breeze and frigid temperatures near the Falls Tongue

Question:

Where did you get your economic platform, Senator Paul?

I'm not sure what you mean since his economic platform doesn't really seem to resemble Rand Paul's economic views at all.  However, I really hope you're not implying that you've literally memorized Paul's official economic platform.

In what ways does my platform resemble Rand Paul's? Especially considering that Paul has called for nation-wide right-to-work laws.

Actually a joke about Senator Paul's plagiarism flap.

The economic platform is the exact same idea Branden is using. Branden and I developed in a private message in IRC one night.

Repealing the sales tax and exempting people from the income tax aren't original ideas that you can claim ownership of.

This.  I also don't recall the economic platform that TheRileyKeaton wrote having anything in it about about opposing "Right to Work Low Wages" laws in it.  I hope he isn't intending play "the boy who cried plagiarism" whenever someone from another party agrees with him on an issue Tongue
