I just thought of it and like it. Kind of an awkward rhyme, but it still sounds better than "Prude Brood".

I think I'll use it when referring to Snowstalker, TNF, seatown and Tweed if he ever returns and posts more of that idiotic sage crap he posted way too much of in his final years (as opposed to his great posts that involved music and forum history.)

Sage is a delicious herb.  Try some fresh sage, onion and kale, sauteed then add a little chicken stock, white wine, and cream for a hearty sauce that can top off any kind of meat, poultry, and fish.

I like to think of "sage" as my lasting contributing to the forum even though it only regularly applies to one poster.

Not at all. seatown was probably an even worse sage, there's also TNF, and all that rambling bullsh!t Tweed would post.

Tweed posted things worth reading though.

Yeah but Sage is a lot more than just an ideology. It's a way of life that only one poster best exemplifies.

I'd argue that Tweed's contributions were usually a lot more insightful and better thought out than anything Snowstalker or TNF have ever posted.  I wouldn't consider him sage in that sense.

"Sage" means wise person.  Here we use it as a synonym for pseudo-intellectual.

"Sage" is a term now being used to demean posters who actually try to contribute and share their thoughts, however disorganized they may be. Its definition is slowly expanding in order to be used as a jab at people who don't post in styles that smug regulars appreciate. In particular anyone who regularly posts at length on a topic can now be labeled sage. Redalgo was mentioned. He's not edgy or trying to seem wise.. the guy's just sharing his thoughts. You know.. like, what you might feel free to do on a forum?

Things like this make the atmosphere around here pretty unpleasant.

I completely agree with this. The use of sage is just a form of bullying.

Well, Redalgo is able to convey his thought pretty articulately, and he doesn't resort to overused True Leftist buzzwords like "neoliberal" or "thug" or "slavery" to try getting a point across.

Yeah Redalgo isn't a sage. But compare him to the mind numbing idiocy posted last night.

There seems to be some confusion between True Leftism and Sage. They have overlapping elements but are not the same. I do not consider TNF "sage" as he carries a sense of self-awareness that some others may not.

I don't understand why you'd include the others but not him.

I'm more comfortable with the use of "sage" as a near-synonym for annoying, edgy True Leftism than as a meme specifically reserved for bullying Snowstalker, for obvious reasons... but Tik raises a good point that even this redefinition isn't so hot.

Also Redalgo is a great poster, and if anything seems to be too painfully self-aware.  Yeah, some of his opinions demonstrate the pitfalls of relying exclusively on first principles and abstract consistency... but I for one think his perspective is valuable, interesting, and worth listening to.

If we are to consider "sage" bullying or offensive, then we should also consider terms like "moderate hero" and "prude" the same way.

I agree, although for whatever reason I'm getting sarcasm vibes from your post. Just in case I'll add an eyeroll emoticon to save face Roll Eyes
