94 is a pretty good run.

Icon. I caught part of his performance at the Henry A. Wallace Center when I was working at FDR's Presidential Library.

It's a sad day but 94 is a very good run and he did more than most men would with 1,000 lifetimes. The man was still performing live in 2013 for Christ's sake. Total icon.

Really caught me by surprise even with his age; IIRC he was in good health last I saw. Still, RIP to an amazing FF.

He died with the distinction of having a career that lasted almost as long as the average person will be alive - Pete Seeger was 50 years old and performing in the 1960's! You can't say that the man didn't do what he loved.

His wife died last July. Usually with couples that have been together for so long, one doesn't outlast the other by very long.

RIP.

I told a friend who likes folk music about Seegers death at 94, and she joked that he must have been an oak tree. But Pete Seeger was like an oak tree; a timeless institution whose songs were both a passport to an America long gone and a dream of what we can become. Pete Seeger will always live on as my favorite banjo player, and in the Pantheon of American Legends.

The LA Times called him the Conscience of America. I couldn't agree more, even though we are absolutely polar opposites in our approaches to America's problems.

(I'm saging, but were talking about one of my all time favorites.)

A great American, not even in that BS way we call Random Texas Congressman #4 a Great American(TM) - this guy was the real deal.
