What are the chances that the liberal warrior from Vermont makes a comeback?

If he does, how well does he do in the primary, both with and without Hillary?

How would he do if he was nominated? Against which Republicans?

Low, I would hope. He did a great job as DNC Chairman, but he doesn't do well under the pressure of a campaign. He'd make an excellent HHS Secretary in a Democratic Administration.

He seems to have wavered on this.  Initially, he sounded quite open to running, even against Clinton.  Then he said that he would endorse Clinton if she ran, and at one point ruled out running at all.  Now he's back to saying "never say never":

So I guess I'd say that it sounds like he's not ready to run against Clinton.  But if she doesn't run, then sure, there's a good chance that he'd be a candidate.  He's expressed more openness to the idea of running than many others who've been speculated about.

On Real Time, Dean said Hillary would run as a centrist, but would be 'much better once in office'

20%, I guess. Doesn't sound half as keen as he did late last year.

Very low.

Against Hillary, he'd lose every state. He would have a chance at an upset in Vermont, but Hillary would still be favored there.

He has a similar argument to Gingrich oddly enough. While he hasn't been in office for some time, he maintains credibility from earlier fame and can take some credit for the party's success (He was DNC Chairman during the 2006 and 2008 cycles.)

A former North Dakota Governor with his background could be a Republican frontrunner.

My guess is that he won't run, and that he won't do well in the primary if he does run. There's no hunger in the Democratic party for an elderly white guy. Party voters tend to prefer people who are younger, and who represent significant milestones. My guess is that someone from the Obama administration will do very well with African-American primary voters.

If Dean wins the primary, it would suggest he has more political strength than I can imagine. Perhaps he'll be a strong candidate, keeping all the Obama states except maybe Florida.

Or he might appeal to the least realistic primary voters, and go down in a landslide against a generic Republican.
