Rauner is not homophobic, first of all. I don't support him, but he has said that he would have signed the same-sex marriage bill that Quinn signed a few months ago.

That said, there are some signs of misconduct here, and also southern IL conservatives will jump at the idea that Rutherford is gay.

Rauner may not be homophobic, but he is pandering to homophobes.

http://www.chicagonow.com/kelly-truth-squad/2014/02/bruce-rauner-may-be-behind-attacks-on-rutherford-gop-candidates/

Looks like Rauner may be behind this, so I hope the truth gets out!

Speaker Madigan already got in front of GOP by cutting corporate tax  and spike in min wage, reformist ideas. That alone along with legislative races federal and state will allow Quinn to get by, especially Rauner.

Quinn's numbers are awful.  He's trailing every potential challenger.  Very rarely does an incumbent ever recover from that.

It happened in 2010.
Uh, no, it didn't.  I remember seeing polls that showed Jim Ryan as the only Republican beating Quinn.  Bill Brady was a lousy candidate who cost Republicans a race that they should, by all accounts, have won.  Not to mention that Quinn is even less popular now than he was in 2010.

In other words, Quinn is staying in the Executive Mansion until 2018-ugh.

Nobody likes Quinn, who has crappy approval ratings
I would be inclined to agree, but there's enough time that things could change.

Quinn never lead. He was supposed to lose by 5 points. So yes, it did happen.

If Quinn were to see the writing on the wall and decide to drop out post-primary, how would the new nominee be chosen? Who would the likely candidates be? Would he even be able to do that?

They would likely chose Vallas, Daley or Hynes. It would probably be Vallas, from a state convention. Speaker Madigan doesn't want to work for his stepdaughter anyways. But Quinn will stay in because he never leads in polls until the election. Just like against Hynes.

I cannot see Christie endorsing Brady in the primary with every other candidate being more moderate. Seems like an attempt on Brady's part to be seen as more moderate.

i won't be voting for Rutherford--no way. i also heard some rumors about him a few years ago so that scares me away . the more i hear about Dillard the more i think i will be voting for him. Brady,Rauner don't impress me at all.

Rutherford is pulling all of his ads off the air, effective immediately.

He says he isn't dropping out though.

I haven't seen any more articles that said this.  I hope he can turn it around.

At this point, the primary is Rauner's to lose... I'll probably choose the Republican ballot on election day in March so I can vote for Dillard in the Gov primary and vote against Oberweis for US Senate vs. Durbin.

Rothenberg has moved Quinn's race from Lean Dem to Pure Tossup.

I do hope Quinn manages to survive again. At least he's good at winning uncomfortably close elections.

I share Franzl's opinions. Quinn seems to be underrated.

Unless there are any cracks in Quinn unique relationship with senior citizens, as do Charlie Crist, he will hang in there. Paul Vallas will eventually come out and attack the GOP.
