they are noble beasts. they have even been shown to tend to their injured. only a degenerate would do such a horrific, cruel thing to these beautiful creatures

What we need is regulation, so that sharks can survive as nature intended and so that cultures who consume sharkmeat can also be recognized.

The main problem is that it is so wasteful.  I can see requiring them to bring the whole shark to land before definning it.

I completely agree. If you're going to take the fins, you should use the whole animal. I've had shark meat and it's pretty good. However, cutting off the fins and throwing the shark back into the water should be illegal and with harsh penalties. I do support banning shark finning and shark fin soup so long as the practice remains so prevalent.

Many shark species have seen population declines of 70%-90% over the past 20 years largely due to shark finning.  Whether the meat tastes good or bad isn't really the point, at the current rate sharks are being killed, most species could easily go extinct within the next 10-20 years.
