In honor of the Super Bowl tomorrow, I was wondering what everyone's favorite sport was?

Mine is Ice Hockey. Grew up with it, and now play it for my high school. My life basically revolves around it. I think it is the most underrated sport, especially by fellow Americans. My favorite NHL team is the Boston Bruins, and my favorite college team is the Boston University Terriers.

Baseball is a distant second, though I do like the sport and follow it. Football is just behind baseball, I do like that sport and follow it as well. I do not like basketball at all.

What is yours?

I love Hockey, but I can't see it that often because, well... It's Florida...

Florida has more NHL teams than Quebec and the same amount than Ontario.

in that order.

Interesting Hockey is your second favorite sport considering you're from Texas.

Also interesting is that curling is there.

For me:

1) Curling
2) Hockey
3) Canadian football
4) Soccer
5) Cricket
6) Baseball
7) Tennis
8 ) Lacrosse
9) Basketball
10) Rugby

I'm not going to bother listing all of the sports I can think of that would be higher on my list than American football.

American and Canadian football are very similar. Why the hate?

Yeah I'd like to see some sort of rational explanation for that (though I guess, this being sports fandom, rational explanations are perhaps entirely beside the point).

Anyway, American football is the only sport I actually care about these days.  I guess tennis would be second, used to play all the time, but I don't really follow all that much anymore.

I enjoy the fact that the CFL is an all-Canadian league, and has enough rule differences from American football to qualify as a separate sport (although Harry would disagree). It also has a unique history from American football, despite the similarities. The NFL on the other hand lacks any Canadian teams, has few Canadian players, and is basically a huge circle jerk of American culture.  This is not something that appeals to me.  I also feel that the NFL is a threat to the Canadian game, as its popularity is gaining in the country (especially among my demographic, and especially in Ontario)- although the CFL is still more popular overall. This threat means the deterioration of a Canadian cultural institution, which bothers me.  I could write a large essay about all of the reasons, but I'll spare you that. But it has little to do with the differences in the two sports.

This is after all, a list of favourite sports, so everyone's list is going to be made of irrational choices, based on personal preferences anyway. One person may find golf really boring, but another person may love it.

Thank you very much for explaining. I figured it had something to do with America's relentless cultural imperialism Wink

Soccer and football.

I didn't realize how crazy northerners were for hockey until I spent last summer in DC; being from where I'm from, I was kinda surprised.

3. Handball
4. Hockey (Field hockey, as it is called on your side of the Atlantic).

Quite blasphemous to ask that of a lifelong Habs fan. Wink
