ooooh, Late Quartet.  I didn't think of that.  Another excellent movie with Hoffman, but sappy.  Also, it had Christopher Walken, so Hoffman was overshadowed.  But he certainly handled the role of frustrated-second-violinist-and-I-know-that-the-first-violinist-is-doing-my-daughter-and-there's-nothing-I-can-do-about-it.  Pulled it off well, in fact.

I still can't believe he's dead.  Well, I can believe that he drank too much, took too many pills, and was overweight.  But that describes pretty much everyone my age.  Still, that he died so young is creepy.

I'm impressed that so many of the younger posters know who this guy is, and admire his work.

He was a great talent.  From early on his work stood out from the rich dick in Scent of a woman, to Lester Bangs in Almost Famous, Magnolia and of course Scotty. You stopped and took notice, He was in a lot of good films and expanded his work to take leads.  Addiction is a terrible thing and best to remember that no matter how long it has been, you still have it have it lurking.

Capote. Of course, all of his roles were great.

Btw, at risk of being lynched, I didn't like The Ides of March.

Understandable. It's unremarkable but being that it has anything to do with politics, Atlas will fawn over it.

It was good, but not great.  The highlights were Giamatti and Hoffman's performances (especially the former).
