You really shouldn't gloat about a draw when you all you could talk about beforehand was how the US would definitely lose...

Seriously unbelievable, but we're still alive. USA can hang with Germany.

At least the Belgians can finish you off if the worst comes to fruition.

lol @ snowstalker in this thread

Laughing at the USA while supporting literally the worst team at the World Cup.

Great game by the USA, probably their best performance ever in a World Cup. Really dominated Portugal for much of the game. But Portugal is a team with quality, and they'll pounce when you make mistakes, like Cameron and Bradley did in this game. But Germany and USA will be bros and draw the last game and everything will work out.

A reprise of the 1982 Non-Aggression pact of Gijón?

It can't hurt that our team is mostly German.

I was going to send this to you on Facebook...

(And now I'm in on the, "Lief, check your private messages..." routine.)

Folks, look up what "biscotto" means in Italian regarding Soccer. Italy have been on the bad end of it before (Euro 2004 after the Sweden-Denmark tie). It isn't happening with the U.S. and Germany especially because of Klinsmann's connections to Germany. The idea of a fix will get so much attention that the Germans will make sure it doesn't happen so that there isn't controversy down the road.

Sickening.

I had hoped to see Portugal play somewhat poorly, but not this poorly. The US will be in for a shock when they play Germany. I mean, it's not "serious" person considering it's just sport, but coverage of this here is horridly biased. A lot of people sincerely believe that since they beat Ghana, and Ghana was able to draw Germany, that means the US team is skilled enough to defeat Germany. The US had no business winning that first game- it's apparent when you look at the stats that Ghana dominated. A lot of people are overestimating the quality of the American team. And I'm not saying this just because I need Germany to give the US a drubbing.

God what a heartbreaker today. So nice we lost it in the final 20 seconds. I hope Germany and the US tie Thursday so they can both advance... I mean, our coach is German...

No one is saying there's going to be some conspiracy to rig the game 0-0. But soccer is frequently a game where a side goes into a match ready and willing to play for a draw. All these players have experience with going into a game knowing that earning a point is a good result. Both teams will likely play conservatively and cautiously, and if it's the last 30 minutes or so and neither is winning, they're not going to exert themselves trying to take the lead.

Germany will go out with the intention of ripping the opposition to shreds. End of story.

The Algerians, thankfully, will probably make it to the Round of 16 now to avenge the vile conspiracy against them. Obviously the Americans will be torn apart next week.

Well all of Snowstalker's predictions about the USA have been completely wrong so far, so I'm glad he's predicted we'll be thrashed.

Collusion will not help the sport in the US. Of course, I have a feeling Americans would react differently that the German and Austrian people did to the match back in 1982, so I could be wrong.

538 now has the U.S. probability of advancing to the knockout stage at 76%, up from 64% this morning.

God yes, I couldn't stand ESPN coverage.

Ideally, Germany thrashes the Americans while Ghana beats Portugal, with your guys slipping through on goal difference. Frat tears ensue.
