What's the strategic advantage of a shoulder bite?

It rattles them, disorients them... and then you land the killing blow!

Was it definitely a bite? The British TV angle wasn't great.

No.

Pure Italian drama and a fake picture in the internets.

Only saw what the picture shown on British telly, which wasn't clear. However...

It has been clear for quite a while that Suarez is basically a comedy villain. I don't normally approve of violent tactics, but 'tis a shame that neither Ingerland nor Italy did the obvious thing and clatter his knee repeatedly.

Italy-haters are evil monsters who should be eliminated with fire (sane).

Meanwhile the England cricket team have contrived to lose a test - and therefore the stupid mini-series - to Sri Lanka that they ought to have won comfortably. Fire everybody.

Does anyone actually think the US can beat Germany in their game ?

WilliamHill offers a quota of 1:11 for a US win and I'm seriously thinking about investing 50 or 100€ on a US win ... Tongue

Anyways, anyone who would have liked to see Uruguay and Italy both eliminated should cheer...

they went into this match thinking the tournament would definitely be rid of 23 of them and hey presto, it's definitely rid of 24.

Also now Italy and Spain are both out, Germany must be clear favorites.

Well, all this Italian biting has at least settled my mind on what I'm going to eat for lunch.

Any chance of a better picture/video than we saw here?

Here's a different angle, at least

You played for a draw until Uruguay scored.

It's not our fault if you want to win games without attacking.

Now that Italy, Spain and England are all out, it would be downright unsportsmanlike and lacking in solidarity for Germany to survive the group stage. Evil

(Actually, Brazil were clear favorites ahead of Spain and Germany even before the start of the tournament, Italy were usually only mentioned in a "and you can never rule Italy out, of course" vein and England were never considered contenders. Not even in England. Oh, and reading the new replies is helpful: you editted that out without any prompting already. Please put it back in. I like my joke above re the Big Four leagues.)

Well Germany is for some reason completely unable to beat Italy and recently Spain in major tournaments. I'm not sure if Germany has EVER beaten Italy actually.

Uruguay manager just went on a lengthy rant defending Suarez against the Italians' vile accusations, followed by applause from at least one journalist in the room. Very glad they're not going to let Italy and FIFA pull off a second Zidane travesty of justice!

7 of the 10 New World nations have qualified. Possible to get to 9/10 if Ecuador and US get in (Honduras is still technically alive, but it would take a miracle). Also it is possible that only 4 of the 16 qualified teams will be from Europe. Wouldn't that be something!
