The team is full of selfish egotists

Like about 2/3 of this tournament's teams.

If anyone had said beforehand that the only southern European country that would get out of the group stage would be Greece, that person would have been committed.

The big disappointment of today, of course, is that The Bad Guy scored a goal.

To be fair, they probably want the bonus money in cash so they can cheat on their taxes more easily.  Think of it as doing a favor for their accountants.

And, when you mix African countries and international soccer, that's so ripe for corruption and people cheating the players out of their bonus somehow.  That was their main concern, right?

I'm told a lot of them don't have bank accounts in Ghana, which meant they couldn't wire it to them, or something like that.

I think the US has a decent chance against Belgium. Should be interesting to see if Altidore can play. I doubt it, but that will be an interesting story-line. Also if the US were to win, they'd probably play France of the 4th of July. ESPN has to be salivating about that.

I wish I could say Ghana was robbed, but after that second Portuguese goal...

Also genuinely laughed at people trying to defend soccer as a physical game and gridiron as one with more action. Even cricket is faster paced.

If you really want a fast-paced, physical game...

No, it's Germany that (probably) faces France.

Insane that Costa Rica and USA are through but Italy, England, Spain and Portugal are all out. What a beautiful World Cup!

We seemed pretty lazy today...but a win's a win, I guess, and the US getting through is nice to see as well.

France / Germany would be an epic QF! I'd obviously cheer for the Germans.

Yeah, should be some great quarterfinal matchups: Brazil/Colombia, France/Germany, Argentina/USA...

Correct. But certain people will still be predicting a 4-1 loss, having learned nothing.

I'd be worried if those people suddenly flipped.

Also, just read Ann Coulter's wonderful troll piece. 5 stars!

The Algerian fans seem really to hate Samedov. Dislike for converts to Christianity?

Hats off to the U.S. and their real fans around here (even if they also annoy me a lot of the time). The U.S. will lose to Belgium but I could see them winning. If they won, they'd surely be finished in the Quarter finals.

Marvelous. Hopefully they will exact revenge on the cheating Huns for 1982.
