But let's get back to discussing our football triumph Smiley

Yeah, soon - only one thing to add:

Everyone will pay the road toll.. Wink No Extrawurst to speak of.

Of course everyone will pay the toll, but you Germans get it back via a deduction from your car insurance. Which means you pay nothing.

We could have done the same thing with our road toll, that in fact only foreigners have to pay. We could have let only Germans pay the toll as well, but we play it fair in accordance with the EU rules (and because it would hurt the tourism). Like with the tuitions fees on universities, where German students can enjoy a free study here in Austria. Should we introduce revenge tuition fees for Germans only ? It's easy to see the big Extrawurst that you are roasting here, throwing overboard the fair and common rules accross Europe that you once demanded yourself. But it's easy if you are a big country that can bully the smaller ones ... Tongue

Now, back to football.

What's done in tax policy is a seperate issue. If certain taxes happen to go down at the same time...it's pure coincidence Smiley

And tuition fees don't exist anywhere in Germany either, which applies to foreigners as well, for your information... Wink

Indeed, though, back to the football celebration.

Even aside from road fee debates and what not, though, I would have expected Austrians to be against their "big cousins" in football. Has this changed recently to our benefit?

I think there has been a general pro-Germany shift in football because they have a young team playing fun football. Last few years it's been a clear trend. I say this as someone who supported them back in 2002. Wink

Weird Merkel pic, after the finale:

Later that night, the German team dumped the Chancellor for Rihanna - quite understandable:

I remember suporting  Germany in 1982 and 1986, but that time there were no Netherlands to root for.

Germany-Netherlands would have been a great final (though Argentina played very well this time).

I was far more content with Argentina. It was a more exciting basis, Europe vs. South America, the fact that Germany vs. Argentina is almost traditional at this point....and of course the fact that I could have lived with losing if necessary. Losing to the Dutch, though, would have been awful.
