How do you feel about the general nostalgia for the Clinton years and the fact that as time goes by Bill Clinton is overshadowing FDR as the Democratic Party's icon and standard bear?

How do you feel about the general nostalgia for the Clinton years

Times were superficially good, so it's understandable, especially since there isn't really any other immediately obvious period within most people's memories for Democrats to have nostalgia for, but still misguided.

Not good. Not good at all.

Accidentally voted deserved but meant to vote undeserved.

This is why LBJ should be both damned and praised by every Democrat. Damned for the obvious, praised for presiding over a booming, powerhouse economy in the 60s and for the last major period of liberal and Democratic dominance to date. At least a more interesting and transformative President than Clinton

It's a reflection on the disappointment of Obama who has been seen by a weak and ineffective leader meanwhile Hillary is portrayed as someone ruthless who gets sh**t done.

Undeserved but I don't really care.

Bill's time will soon be over, Obama will inherit that mantle and he will be much more deserving of it.

His Presidency was the epitome of taking credit for the Good Times (TM).

I understand it, since I often have it myself, although I think it's a little too much.  Times may have been mostly good under Clinton, but it wasn't really because of him.  It was because of the end of the Cold War and his compromises with Republicans on cutting taxes and spending, reforming welfare, etc.

Compared to the last two Presidents (Bush/Obama) why wouldn't people be nostalgic about the Clinton years things were so much better then and politics was so much less brutal than they are today.

Compared to the last two Presidents (Bush/Obama)

The thing is though that Bush and Obama had extraordinary circumstances to work with compared to Clinton. Whether or not you believe they've been successful, it must be admitted that Clinton had a much more favorable set of circumstances and even then managed to cause trouble with his personal indiscretions.

why wouldn't people be nostalgic about the Clinton years things were so much better then

The question then is whether Clinton could be credited for the smooth sailing of those years or just had the good fortune to be President during them.

and politics was so much less brutal than they are today.

I can tell from this that you didn't follow politics during the late 1990s.

The 90s were awesome, but not because of who the President was.

Undeserved, but I like it.

1992-1995 nostalgia is in full-swing now.

Given that he is more to blame for the current mess than virtually anyone else - hate it. Very odd that so many so-called left-wingers admire the man responsible for NAFTA, Glass-Steagall repeal, welfare reform, DADT and DOMA.
