49% See Death Penalty As Effective Way to Fight Terrorism

Sixty-three percent (63%) of Likely Voters think the Boston Marathon bombing suspect should receive the death penalty if convicted. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that just 25% do not think Tsarnaev should receive the death penalty if convicted. Twelve percent (12%) are not sure.

You can view more details on the survey here.

Yeah, as if terrorists give a f**k about the death penalty ... Roll Eyes

This article doesn't even make sense. 49% is only mentioned in the title. In any case, whatever, y'know?

Please edit the URL link Tender so it doesn't reformat the page.

I'd be interested to read what public opinion in Norway says about Brevik and how it compares to attitudes about Tsarnaev.

I'm sure some would-be terrorists do. Those who perhaps see some glamour or prestige in it but then think of the awful consequences of getting caught alive...

The 49% is in a secondary question that appears in the subscriber section of the story. Perhaps the headline is a tease to get more subscribers. Tongue

You realize that killing terrorists makes them martyrs, right?

If you are so concerned about whether the death penalty makes terrorists into martyrs, why not advocate using weapons dipped in pig blood (if you really want to go that route)? It will make them think twice about pulling off something like the Boston marathon bombing because anything from a pig is considered unclean. I heard that the British actually used a strategy like this in Afghanistan during the 1800s.

It's certainly more just than life imprisonment/whatever other options there might be, which is just as (if not more) significant.

It's also effective against acne and restless leg syndrome.

It's very clearly not a deterrent; I think calling it such makes most people feel better about the fact that they just want revenge. Justice too often is equated with revenge, and that's unfortunate.

Exactly this. Giving them death after they've committed their jihad is the cherry on the cake. It's what they want, it's what they expect and it's what their supporters crave.
