What if Mitt Romney never ran for president in 2007- 2008? He instead serves another term as Governor of Massachusetts. His Approval ratings are at 56 percent. in 2016, He decides to run for President. After winning the new Hampshire  primaries, he eventually sweeps the rest. He then chooses Rob Portman from Ohio as his running mate.

On the Democratic side, Joe Biden wins the nomination. At 74 years old, he needs to find a younger running mate. Governor Brian Schweitzer is chosen.

Trivia facts:
President Obama's approval ratings are at  52 percent.
Ron Paul was the GOP nominee for 2012 and lost 347- 191.
The Republican Party took over the senate  but lost the house in 2014
Repubilcans Senate: 51-49  Democratic House: 219- 216

Just because the map shows a landslide doesn't mean its close. A few thousand votes here and there could give Biden ten extra states. But how the hell does Romney win OH, IN, PA, MI, MN, WI, ME, CT, WA, OR, IA, AZ, FL, GA, AND NC with a Tea Party candidate in the race? This map makes little sense.

I forgot to add Bernie Sanders running a third-party bid against Joe Biden in this map.

Mitt Romney wins a nailbiter:

Mitt Romney/Rob Portman - 277 Electoral Votes, 49% of the popular vote
Joe Biden/Brian Schweitzer - 261 Electoral Votes, 47% of the popular vote
Gary Johnson/Jim Gray - 0 Electoral Votes, 3% of the popular vote
Jill Stein/Cynthia McKinney - 0 Electoral Votes, 0.8% of the popular vote
Roseanne Barr/Wayne Allen Root - 0 Electoral Votes, 0.2% of the popular vote

I realize this is not necessarily supposed to be 100% realistic, but the idea that Biden's team would opt for Schweitzer as a complimentary candidate to the ticket is extremely unreasonable and puts the GOP (with Romney/Portman at an advantage).  Biden and Schweitzer would be a disaster together because neither of them has really any filter.  The most dangerous place in Montana is between Brian Schweitzer and a camera.  Given the scenario though I would predict a very narrow election with the Democrats winning 274 electoral votes vs. the Republicans winning 264 electoral votes.

So you're assuming Patrick decides to wait until 2010 to seek the MA governorship ?
