They sound like utter wusses with their school cancellation policies. Granted I'm sure the kids love it but I'm laughing at how absurd it is.

Yeah, and their winter cancellation policy is probably not the most important reason.

Anything about Oklahoma is automatically horrible until I see evidence to the contrary.

On school closings, it's better to call off school and make the day up than to have school with 60% attendance. Because then you're going to catch a bunch of kids up which wastes teacher time and resources. Leaves kids behind.

Full Disclosure: I'm a student who just got back from like a 3 week snow break.

I haven't been following the Update, so what are the school cancellation policies?

Their school cancelation policy is necessary to keep the kids safe, since no one has any experience driving in ice and snow and the roads would be very dangerous.

Having said all that, I'm sure it's a pretty bad district anyway, since pretty much every inner city district is.

Oklahoma gets snow every year. Maybe not a whole lot, but certainly enough so that it's absurd to say "no one" has "any" experience. And driving in an inch or two of snow is not hard to adjust to pick up anyway.

Not to mention plenty of teenagers and new drivers with essentially no experience LEARN how to drive in such conditions here. Does anyone actually think driver's education and license testing ceases during the winter here? There's plenty of teenagers in the Midwest right now that have never driven without snow on the ground.

This past Wednesday we had school in spite of a 6-inch overnight snowfall, which for the most part had not yet been cleared from the roads (we did get an apology afterwards from the Superintendent saying it ought to have been a Snow Day, though! Everyone felt better) and then on Friday we had school again in spite of a temperature of -2F (-19 in normal person degrees) and wind chills of -18 (-28 in normal person degrees) at 8 in the morning. So, they are terrible pussies I am quite jealous of. HSD.

Freedom School District (normal).

It has its flaws and I don't like the weather policy, but overall it's a good district in the best state in the country.
