Of the 43 states that elect Lt. governors, only 17 of them elect Gov. and Lt. Gov. separately (so the other 26 are essentially just governors races). Here are the states that do so:

Alabama
Arkansas
California
Delaware
Georgia
Idaho
Mississippi
Missouri
Nevada
North Carolina
Oklahoma
Rhode Island
South Carolina
Texas
Vermont
Virginia
Washington

Which of these do you think will be competitive? Or states where the Gov. and Lt. Gov. will be different parties?

Crossed off states that don't hold governors/lt. governors elections in 2014.

Vermont will be uncompetitive but the Gov and Lt. Gov will continue to be from separate parties.

Texas Lieutenant Governor (my home state): I'm betting the runoff comes down to Dewhurst (incumbent seeking 4th term) against Patterson (who I'm hoping can overcome psycho Patrick).

Dewhurst wins the runoff and goes onto to crush State Senator Leticia Van de Putte (D-San Antonio) in November by landslide double digits.

If Dan Patrick is the LG nominee in TX, the race becomes competitive, though Patrick is still probably favored, unfortunately.

I just don't see a Pete Wilson wannabe winning the Republican nomination for Lieutenant Governor.
