Via Gawker: "Of Course Scott Walker Says He Voted for Ronald Reagan When He Was 17."

Quote

He says he "had just become a teenager" when he voted for Reagan? Did 13 year old Scott Walker show up Alex Keaton style to cast a ballot? Did Wisconsin's poll workers not see anything remotely amiss about a middle schooler attempting to vote in a presidential election?

Or is this just emblematic of how no more than Six Degrees of Reagan Separation are required in order to campaign as a Republican?

"I was a conservative footsoldier in the Reagan Revolution...I worked with Ronald Reagan...I voted for Ronald Reagan...I had a Reagan '84 bumper sticker on my car...Whenever I go to Washington, I always book a flight into Ronald Reagan National Airport!"

"had just become a teenager and voted for Ronald Reagan"

Considering he said "had just become a teenager," which is an accurate decription of turning 13, why not Option C -- the dude misspoke, and meant something like "supported Ronald Reagan"?  This was clearly an off-the-cuff error.

Let him go, boys. Scott Walker is a lot of things but a vote-frauder ain't one of them.

I use the term "I voted for Gary Johnson" a lot. It's a minor speaking error.

Only if you've suffered a traumatic brain injury.

Well Scott Walker has lied about why he doesn't have a college degree so this type of behavior is pretty normal for him.

Ed Schultz, who's a strong critic of Walker, actually defended him tonight and in Ask Ed Live corrected a person's question that Walker was guilty of such a thing. Ed knows what Walker bait is and what not to use against him. However, considering Mary Burke, Walker's 2014 opponent, is an education activist, I would stay on Walker over this college degree thing and try to steal college-graduate votes away from Walker in the campaign and could even cite this as a grammatical example. It might be a bit of a long-shot going after Walker from every angle, but Doyle was successful in accomplishing it in 2002.

That would be the opposite of helpful.

He's channeling Wendy Davis's 'divorce' memory.

The proper punctuation is Davis', not Davis's.

Without the "s" was how I was taught.  It looks cleaner.  Honestly what you linked to is an inconsistent mess.

my point is not that you were taught the wrong rules or something; my point is that IO was trying to impose a rule that is not even widely agreed upon.

An "inconsistent mess" is a pretty good way to describe English grammar rules.

I'm a writer, so I know a thing or two about grammar. You never see professional articles or literature using that sort of grammar.

Yeah so why complicate it by following that byzantine train wreck that guy linked to.  Just use an apostrophe solo.  Simple.

why don't you go to the citations at the bottom? (the other two are, of course, Strunk & White and the Canadian Press Stylebook)

This is particularly funny as Wendy Davis couldn't even get her own facts right in the recent redistricting trial.
