Yes it's sad and disgusting to consider the possibility of the US breaking up. However the possibility is there. Look at the polarization politically, sharp moral and ideological divisions, and look at why folks are leaving New York, California and others for Texas or other low tax states. There you'll see the ripe potential for a split. I pray it doesn't happen but as things are it doesn't look good.

Hopefully this time there isn't a war over it.

Western states like the Dakotas, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arizona, Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho would opt to join the new Confederacy.

Splitting the country into (at least) four separate portions?

Why wouldn't there be? Treason can't be tolerated.

So, we are going to kill a bunch of our own brothers? Seems lovely.

We're (the North/Union) not the ones that decided to break up the union.

I meant if a state decided to secede today.
But as for the Civil War, I I'm probably with odds on you with it.

No state with a sizable black population would be able to pull it off, since African-Americans would be 100% adamantly opposed to any kind of recreation of the Confederacy.  More likely (though still extremely unlikely, obviously) would be Utah/Idaho/Nebraska/Kansas/etc.

4? What are you talking about? He's saying that those states would join the original Confederacy. There'd only be 4 if you count Alaska and Hawaii as separate portions.

If those states joined the original Confederacy the map would look (roughly, too lazy to change all the R states) like this, with at least three separate regions of the 'North'.

This thread is not disgusting.  It is reality.  The only disgusting aspect is the disregard among those who wish for it to happen for all racial, religious, and sexual minorities in the South, as well as leftists in general in the region.

Put Indiana with the states in blue and you have it.

President Elizabeth Warren for the Northeast.
President Scott Walker for the Midwest.
President Marco Rubio for the South.
President Harry Reid for the West.

Our country would be highly contested at the national level, six of our states voted.for Obama, the other six for Romney.

Our country would be highly contested at the national level, six of our states voted.for Obama, the other six for Romney.

If independent countries, all of these regions would be extremely competitive at the national level.  Politics is naturally competitive and schisms would be formed in even the most monolithic regions of the United States if these regions were suddenly turned into independent countries.

And, on a substantive note, a reestablished Confederacy - while definitely not a world superpower - would at least be on the same geopolitical standing as a nation such as Canada or Australia.
