In Florida, you have to serve 80% of your sentence. So he is going to be spending his life in prison, regardless of the murder charge.

True, but that still doesn't make any sense of it or make it right.

I did see [can't confirm it yet though] that some reporter said that the State Attorney will retry him on the murder charge though.

Either way, it's a cop-out. He's guilty of attempting to murder everyone in the car except he's not guilty of killing the one kid he actually did? Give me a break...

Attempted SECOND degree murder versus FIRST degree murder.  Perhaps the prosecutors overcharged on the FIRST degree murder and should have gone for SECOND degree murder on the actual killing.

Perhaps. The prosecutors aren't immune to a share of blame. One wonders if a case could still have been made for first, depending on the definition of "premeditated."

Also, I think your caps lock button is broken btw.

Of course not; I hope this case will send a message to gun owners that there are limits to their rights, gun control or not. There is legitimate self defense, and there is murder, and this case and the Trayvon Martin case clearly fit that later.

I take some comfort in that fact that this man will be spending the rest of his life in prison (provided the four convictions are upheld). It is disappointing that there wasn't a conviction on the first-degree murder count. If a decision like that stands (and one that is even more blatantly obviously murder than even the Trayvon Martin case), it's practically open season on young black men in the state of Florida. Florida law obviously needs to change, but the prosecution needs to get its act together. If Angela Corey cannot get a conviction in the retrial, she should resign her position immediately.

Is he a violent a-hole scared of black people like Dunn?

So if you are white, and the person you are shooting at is black, murder is legal.

Can we vote Florida off the island, please?

This verdict says otherwise.

I commend you for using the search feature and not starting a brand new thread - something not practiced enough. FF.
