Couldn't he just write a book, or something?

I doubt he can.  He'd have to pay a ghostwriter to tell his story to on the publisher's dime and then likely make no money.

By the same token, and this seems to be the new truth in the US, using the word "thug" is proven racism, and so worse than Hitler, end of argument. Who gives a damn for reality when there's True Leftism to be established?

You don't seem to be American so you can be forgiven for not understanding, but yes, the word "thug" is strongly racially coded in American English.

I don't hear any evidence of that in general Midwestern usage. Thug may be applied to any ruffian here and even with the Richard Sherman controversy, I'll bet most Midwesterners still don't associate thug with any racist overtones. I hadn't even heard of that connotation until the Sherman incident and followup. An exception might be for people around here who closely follow hip-hop, but hip-hop culture has historically taken 5-10 years longer to penetrate the broader Midwestern population than it does on the coasts.

I can confirm this.
