Even if he did debate better, his social values on gay rights are way out of the mainstream.
His best issue, immigration, didn't help much in the 2012 primary.

The last SNL skit of the Republican Primary said it all.

"I was once the frontrunner, and I could have won the whole thing, but it didn't help that I took a deuce every time I talked. But man that was fun when we were on that game show where we were standing at podiums and they were asking us questions!"

"Uh Rick, that wasn't a game show, those were debates."

States in deep blue and maybe two in pale blue.

As President?

You might want to withdraw every investment possible, sell any mortgaged property before it is foreclosed upon, and hold onto cash. There will be plenty of bargains available in the replay of the 1929-1932 meltdown.

Perry vs. Clinton would look something like this.

In a general election? Perry VS Clinton:

Give or take Indiana/Georgia.

His biggest mistake was running in 2012. He was in a lot of pain and drugged out of his mind, which gave him the appearance of being Sarah Palin 2.0 (not that he had an extremely high IQ to begin with) and lead to destructive gaffes.

He is not as weak as you all are making him out to be, but "oops" ruined it for him.

He fumbled the ball, when he muffled the name of SCrt justice Sotomeyer and his anti amnesty rhetoric. GOP wouldn't be able to stand a chance to Latinos.

Rick Perry is in Texas. He should be able to pronounce Spanish surnames. Spanish pronunciation is extremely straightforward. English speakers may on occasion forget that Spanish makes only a fossilized distinction between "b" and "v", that Spanish "h" is never pronounced, that "z" is indistinguishable from most instances of "s" and that "s" is not voiced except before an "n"  between vowels... but even with that one would still have a dialect of Spanish --  and that the city name "Mission Viejo", a suburb of Los Angeles, is a horrible joke.

"Sotomayor" is easily pronounced "so-toe-my-ORE" -- and not as if "Sottomeyer", which sounds either Dutch, German, or Yiddish. Spanish has no schwa.

Any child who lives in Texas deserves to learn Spanish, because Texas culture is part Spanish even after nearly 180 years since Texas separated from Mexico.

Well he had back surgery  I think that impacted his debate performances in 2012. I just don't think he would win a Republican Primary.

Oh please Perry ran to the left of Romney on Immigration and still dropped out of the Republican Primary. I don't see how mispronouncing Sonia Sotomayor's name had anything to do with him losing or dropping out of the primary race since he had other gaffes too.

I have confidence the GOP can win a great number of Latino's in the long run. Now they need a more personal message to latino's  for now.

Just for fun: Let Perry take his own state (Texas) and 47 other electoral votes, which is how Goldwater did in 1964:

(Clinton wins NE-02 and perhaps NE-01).

Remember, he was considered top tier before he even got into 2012 because of his record. Assuming he can convince people that he is better prepared this time, he comes to the table with all those advantages, plus his new found celebrity among conservatives in the fight to secure the border. For conservatives who want a governor over a senator, people who have immigration or jobs in their top 3 most important issues, and evangelicals, he's likely to be in the top 2 or 3. And if Walker and Huckabee don't run, it boosts him even more. American voters have short memories, and primary voters are forgiving. Perrys record on jobs, his willingness to stand up to Obama and take initiative to secure the border, and ability to give a fantastic stump speech will take him a long way, at least in a primary.
