Just how badly could our relationship with China suffer? Or are these empty threats from Beijing?

But he did show some deference to China by not holding the meeting in the Oval Office.......oh, and it's not the first time the guy has been to the White House.

After trolling Russia, China-Dalai trolling is second best fun.

My daughter was selected to make him lunch at the restaurant she works at when he was in NOLA to give the commencement speech at Tulane.

The Dalai Lama trolling China is endlessly amusing though considering that Tibet's Tibetan population is shrinking and the Han Chinese are moving in, I don't know how effective that is.

The Dali Lama is such a crock. China annexing Tibet was for the best in comparison to the way that place was run when before. The Dali Lama isn't even useful to America anymore. Tibet will never be "free" again. It is part of China now and that's all there is to it.

What did the Dalai Lama eat?  Was it at August?

That seems a bit pro-imperialistic; why shouldn't Tibet be free? Simply because China is moving a bunch of Han Chinese in and the Dalai Lamas were terrible in the past?

Good News.  The US President cannot allow China to stop him from meeting with a harmless individual.

Because it's too late now and the idea of an independent Tibet (barring a major collapse of china itself) is basically ASB.

Destroying their cultural legacy and killing thousands during the cultural revolution was hardly a beneficial development compared to feudal Tibet modernizing on its own terms.

Never is an awful long time Cory.

Lol.

Feudal in the marxist sense.

Tibet had a varied social system across various regions with a caste like system being its main component, such a system is fully capable of modernizing as seen in India and elsewhere on the subcontinent.

Do you actually buy the Chinese propaganda about Tibet being a feudal hellhole with an enslaved population before their glorious socialist "liberation"?

Indeed. This is almost too obvious to bear stating but a wide variety of now thoroughgoingly modern countries were at some point or another 'feudal'.

I can't speak to what's in the man's heart but it would be entirely in keeping with the rest of Cory's stated views and prejudices if he did. (Not that such propaganda is entirely without basis in reality, really, but...)

I agree with him that Chinese dominance over Tibet for the foreseeable future is a fait accompli at this point. I just disagree that that's an at all good thing.
