Republicans seem to love this idea, since they've done in Idaho and now (possibly) Arizona too. I have no idea why they think its a good idea for their image.

How likely is it that Jan Brewer signs it?

Brewer's vetoed nutty legislation before, so she's no guarantee on this, but according to the article she has expressed support for letting businesses discriminate.

Sadly, I think it's more likely she will sign than veto it.  The effect this will have on the gubernatorial race should be quite interesting.

This is basically the GOP's short to medium term plan and given American's penchant for wrapping religious rights in a golden robe so that it trumps almost every other born right, it might just be a little bit more successful at state level.

One of the bill's supporters was on CNN defending his law saying that it is merely a 're-enforcement' of federal statute and interpreted it to withstand defenses of lawbreaking in exercise of religious freedom.

See the law for yourself here.  Looks like another one for the courts to interpret, to me.

Yes, please make 2014 about religious-secular segregation, GOP. Please do.

There needs to be a mass boycott of Arizona over this. Liberals need to punish them for their bigotry.
As a bonus, the conservative whites may move out and we may have a finally liberal Mexican Arizona.

In Kansas, an attempt was made to pass a bill similar to the Idaho and Arizona ones.  But it looks like Arizona is the only one which is on the brink of passage.

As a gay minority I am doubly insulted by this.  Can Republicans on this site not comprehend why I despise your party and want it defeated?

Brewer called the bill controversial and noted it failed to pass in other states.  After 1070 and MLK I doubt she wants AZ to lead this charge.  Just look how local press is covering

Article I copy and pasted from http://www.cnn.com/2014/02/21/us/arizona-anti-gay-bill/ before it got reported.

The courts are going swat this down real quick.

I guess businesses are more important than people to the Republican party. But then again we already knew that, didn't we?

Good, good. To be honest though, how easy is it to tell whether somebody is gay or not. I mean, sure, there's a few out there who set off the old gaydar, but realistically now. 'Tis pretty difficult sometimes.

Yeah, my best friend has trouble figuring out when cute girls might be interested in her, too.

Probably gonna get vetoed. Even most of the Republicans running in the primary for the 2014 gubernatorial race are opposed: http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/State-treasurer-says-veto-Arizona-bill-5258854.php

And speaking of "gaydar", Cassius, how much does the forum set yours off, i.e. how many posters do you think are LGBT or any other non-heteronormative, non-cissexual, non-gender binary conforming type of person? I don't need a paragraph, or even a sentence, just a percentage.

Always nice to see Republicans not be batsh**t crazy about things.

Also, for some reason, Brewer is starting to seem like a cliche Disney villain by the day.

There are few people here who I can honestly say I think would turn America into a quas-Nazi state if they were able to.
