There is no way on earth I'm deserting The Rt. Hon. Francis Urquhart, MP, so option 1, even if I really enjoy the remake.

The one which at least tried to develop characters other than the main one.

The full British series had 12 episodes combined, so U.S. creators had a little easier task. Just sayin'

As far as I can tell the British one is even more camp and ridiculous than the American, so I'll go for the latter.

The British one, no doubt.

That's always been one of my biggest problems with British shows. The seasons are short and sometimes shows don't get enough seasons. (I hate that Red Dwarf had only six episodes each for its first six seasons.)

I've never seen either version of this show, but I've heard good things. According to Rachel Maddow, it's better to watch the British version before ever watching the American version. I haven't had Netflix for a few months, but is it worth rejoining to watch either or both?

But that's because the British version knows it is somewhat cartoonish, and loves it.

...and had Ian Richardson (God, he was good. In everything) in the lead role. It is impossible to emphasise this point too much.

The British one, but the American one is a fun watch too. The key to enjoying them is understanding up front they're absurd and not meant to be taken seriously. Closer to Veep than The West Wing.
