I put every election where the winner won at least 55%.
Anyway, 1984 for me.

1964.

It was excellent to see LBJ put away old Goldwater in one swift election.

1964 is better than 1936, because while both are of course victories for the American Left, 1964 is also a defeat of the American racists (Goldwater and his supporters). The political realities of 1936 meant that the racists were co-opted into FDR's coalition. 1964 was a much more "pure" victory.

If by "pure" you mean built on a scam--the type of actions that would become more associated LBJ's successor--then yes, quite pure.

Also, I choose 1820.

Why no 1924? Sad

Anyway, 1924 in the USA, 1895 in the UK.

1972 was my favorite, because I think it is interesting and amusing to see a man fall so rapidly from the top the bottom.

Mostly due to Nixon's disgusting shenanigans, if Nixon had been exposed as the corrupt arse that he was, America would've had President McGovern.

Watergate broke before the election. It was the erasing of the tapes that got him.

UK '83, although making Labour turn right probably ended Tory hegemony.

1984. Although it should be obvious that I like one of the candidates from 1964. Wink

Probably 1956, followed by 1972, 1984, 1980, and 1952.

Goldwater wasn't a racist.  His campaign may have attracted some racists, but he was a founding member of the Arizona NAACP and was instrumental in making his family's department stores among the first in the state to desegregate.  He voted against the CRA because he believed it violated the 10th Amendment (obviously he didn't bother to consider the Equal Protection Clause before he made that vote.)  Not to mention that the racists didn't really embrace the GOP after that (1964 was an outlier).

1964. Goldwater was not a racist and I have no doubts of that but his rhetoric of state rights was quite appealing for Dixieland. Furthermore, this same rhetoric would be useful for both Nixon and Reagan. Just talk about strong Law Enforcement, saying that Busing may and other desegregation initiatives go too far and advocating for some state rights things that you'll be fine on getting the votes of the main segregated and racist states.
