CNN should end all of its shows, tbh.

Piers interviews were always amazing in that he made even the lowest of scum seem likable by comparison.  Fascists, con-artists, and conspiracy theorists will surely miss him as a platform to share their views.

Absolutely.

One thing that bugs me about nighttime cable news is that it's all opinion shows.  I can't be the only one. CNN would probably do better in the ratings with a rolling anchor Weather Channel type boring setup.

Better yet, offer Martin Bashir a new show. While he could have found a better way to word what he said about Sarah Palin, he knocked it out of the park and shouldn't have so much as apologized for calling out that balloon head. And of course, Sean Hannity took to his usual routine, "Oh, we the far right who hates so many different groups of people are the loving ones and we'd NEVER say anything like that!"

But I see that as a double standard, where Martin Bashir is basically forced to resign over a bad choice of words, and Rush Limbaugh says much worse about many different people, and he's the unofficial head of the GOP.
Martin Bashir has a history of making vile and sexist remarks. He was booed off the stage at a media event when he talked about how the podium covered his boner that he was getting from seeing another reporter in the front row. If CNN wants to replace Piers Morgan with another arrogant foreigner who looks down at his own viewers, Bashir really is the way to go.

It is a good thing that such a sad, unhappy person is on his way. Perhaps he will not be so dour and lemon faced when he has some free time.

Piers Morgan was quite obviously right-wing.

good to see CNN clean some house. First John King, now this guy.

What was wrong with John King?   Did you not like his maps?

I think John King still works for CNN.  He's just not an anchor anymore.

In 2006, this man had his own show on CNN:

Amen. His show was honest-to-God unwatchable. I remember watching him interview a supporter of gun rights after Newtown and he wouldn't even let the guy speak. Kept going back to the same statistic over and over again, and when his guest actually gave a thoughtful response to the statistic, Piers just repeated himself. I am fine with partisanship and different points of view, don't invite people onto your show just to berate them.
He called the man "stupid" over and over again, IIRC.

But that was the greatest part! Piers was getting so frustrated and tried to make Larry Pratt stoop to some name-calling match and Larry, after numerous provocations, wouldn't go for it. Which just made Piers even more frustrated. Smiley

Larry King was absolutely dreadful and a strong candidate for the worst interviewer ever, but this guy certainly wasn't much of an improvement. He was basically just as horrible albeit in a different way. Good riddance to bad trash.

Knowing CNN they will replace his time slot with a Wolf Blitzer show.

But yeah, I actually like Piers Morgan Tonight when it first started. It was great to have a new interview show.

Of course, CNN had to turn poor Morgan into the British Blitzer. I don't think his "Guns in America" segments helped either.

Morgan was astonishingly condescending, patronizing, and not a very good debater. I won't miss him.

The thing is, how do you replace Larry King? You don't. I would prefer they give it to someone a little bit edgy. Penn Jillette would be ideal - he's excellent when he's being serious (his talks on ReasonTV are wonderful), but CNN would not do that. I realize he's a left-leaning libertarian, but he'd be good. What's best? He'd get people to freaking think!

I would love the Penn Jillette show as well.

On an unrelated note, CNN is airing a documentary about Matthew McCounoghy has Russian tanks roll through the Crimea.

CNN doesn't care if people think.  They care if people watch.  I doubt Penn would be able to do that on a consistent basis, tho he might get a large audience if he were to interview Teller.

'Tis a shame.  Regardless of whether you agreed with his politics, the man was likeable and engaging with the people he interviewed.  Much better than Larry King, I'd say.

CNN was groundbreaking in 1980... It was raw, reliable, unbiased, and they had an obvious mission to get the story first and fast and right.

Fast forward to 2014... why does CNN exist?

Piers Morgan has been a disaster, because he has tried to make far too many shows about what Piers Morgan thinks rather than exploring the views of his guest.

Anderson Cooper is likable, and can be funny, and given that he doesn't make my skin crawl is a clear step up from Morgan.

Back in the 80s CNN was actually considered (at least by a few on the left) to have a conservative bias in that they tended to present the actual facts and not place the facts in the appropriate perspective.

In was not until the 90s that CNN began to stand for Clinton News Network"

I believe bias that keeps changing is called the truth.

To be expected, given the quality of cable "news" in our country.

They had Joy Behar on for years. I can't imagine people would be less interested in watching Penn Jillette than her.
