Calling this 'emergency' since it's fixing something the Senate is currently trying to do. I think that gets all our Speakers, Emperors, and other such notable officials - any and all suggestions are welcome. Let's just get this passed before the Feds do.

Even if this does pass before the Federal version, the attempt to rename the Atlanta airport will nonetheless be scuttled by the fact that Federal law supersedes Regional law.

Even if this does pass before the Federal version, the attempt to rename the Atlanta airport will nonetheless be scuttled by the fact that Federal law supersedes Regional law.

The Atlanta airport is owned by the City of Atlanta and operated by the Atlanta Department of Aviation, and as such its name is determined by local authorities. As the most local subdivision of government represented, the region has the right to determine the names of these properties, as the Transportation Commission Initiative found that "the Southeast Region reserves the right to pass legislation affecting the operation of airports in the Southeast Region". Airport names are a right normally granted to local governments that the IDS has passed a specific law to reserve to the region - in none of that do I see the federal government having a right or power to rename these airports.

24 hours for objections to a final vote.

I object because if I may, I'd like to be a sonuvabitch and add my name here, and another person's. Tongue

We're still giving you an airport, Mr. Griffin. It's quite an honor.

Even though I'm a plain ol' citizen I'd like to offer an amendment:

Legislators take office immediately upon their election so I cannot declare the amendment friendly or unfriendly - I'd encourage one of y'all to sign up to sponsor the legislation.

I assume sponsorship of this legislation and deem my amendment friendly.

Is there anything we'd like to add before I move this to a final vote?  Fortunately, I don't think we have to rush anymore as the President said he would likely veto the airport renaming bill on his desk.

Members, we will now move to a final vote on the legislation.  Please vote Aye, Nay, or Abstain.

On the IDS Airport Renaming Act of 2014: by the powers vested in me as Emperor of this region, I thus sign it into law.

Be it resolved, X Emperor PiT

If you had a problem with this bill, you should have said something during the week it was being processed.

I don't regularly read threads about renaming airports, bru.

I'll admit I was curious about that... particular section of the bill, but I didn't want to raise a stink about it. Tongue

Served the region well (regardless of his... questionable other views) while in office.
