He was our greatest President.  There are aspects of his time in office that can be justifiably criticized like the NRA and Japanese internment.  But, overall, he faced the greatest challenges and his policies revolutionized America in a positive way.  I don't really understand how people can vote HP.  What on earth is your reasoning?

HP on domestic policy, mega-FF on foreign policy.

This, although even on foreign policy I find some of his antics... Questionable.

Mega FF on domestic policy. But I share Cassius's views on foreign policy.
He was too pacifist and the USA could have played a bigger role in order to oppose Hitler etc.

Cassius, is it what you think too?

Well, I do think that FDR was forced to operate within quite tight constraints with regards to foreign policy in the early days of the war, so I do give him credit for doing what he did to help the allied powers. However, one thing that really bugs me is his holding Churchill over a barrell with sections of the Atlantic Charter.

FF, but in principle only.

He was the first president to bring the US Federal Government into socio-economic modernity (post-Keynes imo), which makes him an FF. Since he was the first, he implemented some of the most clumsy, pointless, and counter-productive policies known to man.

We understand the paradox of the Founding Fathers, who opined that all men were created equal, though some owned slaves and they denied voting rights to many people.  Great theoretical philosophers, who were lacking in the practice of their ideals. FDR was the same. Sound theoretical philosophy. Weak policy and execution.

He is one of those leaders who you both admire and hate. He ranks with Richard Nixon in being both a FF in how he played the game and a HP in actual policy.

Despite my disagreements with his domestic policy, I really like him on a personal level and his foreign policy, so FF.

FDR is one of the most foul presidents this nation has ever had. His odious administration should be the model of what a presidency should not be. Unfortunately, it has been taught to generations of historians that the mark of a good president is to attack free enterprise, massively intrude on the private lives of citizens, arrest as many people as possible, destroy food while thousands starve, set silver prices based of of "lucky numbers" and get the nation involved in a war. By these sterling requirements Roosevelt is one of the very greatest presidents. Those who actually care about civil liberties and free markets should never have a single word to say about FDR....unless that word is "charlatan."

There is no denying that Roosevelt was elected four times. The man was addicted to power after all. He hardly "saved the world." That is comic book history at its finest.

And 3 of those four times were landslides. Besides, he knew that any day the United States would get involved in WWII, and thought he was best for the job like all presidents do.

He had one of the dirtiest campaigns in modern history, and all the best democrats were dead or caught in scandals. He took down McGovern in a way FDR didn't need to.

Easy FF vote here.  With a crapload of context (ie, compared to other US Presidents).

The one big mark on FDR is the whole internment thing which I consider his darkest hour as President.  It was a massive violation of American Civil Liberties and it's a shame it took the government 50 years to give the survivors their proper apology.
However, given the challenges and the crises he faced as President, ultimately I have to say FF.  The nation is much better of than it was before, needless to say.
