Do you prefer how the Japanese treated Americans in their camps?

Because moral relativism is always the basis for sound policy. Roll Eyes

(But seriously, I could see the basis for a valid point if one argued that locking up Japanese people was necessary to win the war [the same dubious argument used by Hiroshima fetishists.] But to argue in favor of the policy simply on the basis that other people who look similar are doing worse things to American citizens somewhere else is blatant racism. Would you defend 1850s-era chattel slavery on the basis that it was less cruel than the slave trade as practiced on the African continent?)

Were the Japanese who were interred the ones torturing our soldiers? Punishing people for actions they did not commit... I don't get it.

Besides, bad behavior doesn't justify bad behavior. I don't subscribe to the idea of "It's not wrong when I do it"

While I think some of his fanbase among the Democratic Party can get carried away, he certainly did far more positive things for "the masses" than most Presidents, and on a scale that was unprecedented in American history. Plus, he was a master at projecting confidence and political charisma, which helped him to create a deeply personal connection with so many Americans-a trait that perhaps been lost. He was certainly a major reason for why  far more of the American public identified (and continued to identify for a long time) as Democrats than Republicans, even during the post-war economic boom years and at the height of the Cold War.

Although I should mention he had something of a cult of personality. Not in the same way Godwin's Law did, though.

Obvious FF.

The internment of Japanese-Americans is certainly a black mark on his record, but he did far more good than bad during his Presidency.  Given his actions to combat both the Depression and fight WWII, he should be ranked as one of the greatest.

Can you imagine the outrage if Dubya wanted to do something like this after 9/11?

His overall record though I'll give him a FF.

Massive FF (normal).  I don't like that he supported internment during WWII, but he helped lead the nation and save it in two crises (first the Great Depression, then WWII.)
