I've heard the phrase "DemonRATS" and "Democraps" more often than craties. Both phrases are annoying though, as is "TPUBLICON", which has been cropping up my local political circles.

To the extent I use "Pubs" (pretty commonly) or "Pubbies" (not so much), I picked up both those words from Torie, so Atlas tradition.  Pretty sure the latter is mostly still just a Torie affectation anyway.

I don't think it's supposed to be insulting or demeaning at all; it's more like Dems than Rethuglicans in that way.  You'd think that the analogue to Dems would be Reps, and it is in many places, but going with Pubs avoids the potential confusion of thinking that Reps means representatives.

It's all good.
