Small L or Emperor PiT have 24 hours to advocate for this.

When I saw the process that the Legislature used to try to change the flag, I thought that was a good idea. Something that will symbolize the region should be approved of by its citizenry. This would ensure that any law that similarly required the consent of the voters to approve it would also require the consent of the voters to repeal it. Once The People decide on their flag, they should also get to decide on any potential change to that flag.

I may be reading the wiki wrong, but it seems like until 2008/2009 every law was passed in some sort of public initiative process. Would every law from the start of the regions up to then be considered ascended?

Section 1 requires that the bill also be passed by the Legislature, so I am confident that the answer is no. Good question.

It occurs to me that sometimes only a portion of a bill will require public approval, like the latest failed attempt at changing our flag that wound up reverting us to the Red Charleston. If someone would introduce this amendment for me:

I'm undecided, I'm not quite sure I see the point of this. It just strikes me as more red tape.

I'll admit that I'm not convinced there is anything worth passing as such other than a flag. With that said, we've been changing our flag rather frequently, and I would prefer us to be more stable in that regard. After 10 years, we should be able to find agreement on what is perhaps our region's most important symbol, and stick with it.

I will propose the amendment.  Small L, do you consider this amendment friendly or unfriendly?

If this bill is being pursued solely due to the IDS flag drama, it's most likely not good law. As of now, I have no qualms with the regional flag.

I agree with Supersonic.  Every bill I've authored that changes our flag has required public approval, and I don't expect that tradition to change.  Unless this bill has another purpose, I'm inclined to vote against it.

The flag we were trying to change for so long was adopted without public approval.

Even though the legislative process back then required that the public was represented, the 2008 initiative was also passed as no-frills normal legislation. The idea of attaching an additional requirement is something a little new here, and it's possible that nobody even recalls it in 3-4 years when people start talking about changing the flag again.

I'll move this bill to a final vote.

Members, please vote Aye, Nay, or Abstain.  This vote will end in 48 hours or when all Representatives have voted.

On the Bill Respecting the Will of The People: by the powers vested in me as Emperor of this region, I thus sign it into law.

Be it resolved, X Emperor PiT
