Had this been a closed primary, Cochran would have lost. He begged black voters to save him and it worked. Cochran probably narrowly lost registered Republicans and white voters.

There is no such thing as a registered Republican in Mississippi.  Therefore, there is no way to close a primary in Mississippi.

Cochran won by significantly upping turnout in his strongholds.  Turnout in McDaniel's strongholds in the Pine Belt was pretty much maxed out.

David Dinkins now speaking, jokes that he'll run in 2016.

Meanwhile Espaillat refusing to concede, the sore loser.

Most of Harlem, Hamilton Heights, Washington Heights in now. Still precincts in Inwood and a few in the Bronx (Espaillat territory). Rangel's margin may diminish somewhat.

Semantics, semantics, I should have said self-identified, but whatever. Looking at the map, I'd say that Cochran lost self-identified Republicans and skated through on crossover support.

Wait, why endorse Childers? He might be socially conservative, but he was still fairly liberal on other things and is pro-senior when it came to social security and healthcare (with the exception of his vote down of Obamacare), so McDaniel would actually spite himself by supporting Childers considering seniors overwhelmingly supported Cochran.

If McDaniel chooses not to challenge this or run as a write-in, then the Tea Party's best option is either to abstain or support O'Hara, the Reform candidate who has a lot of controversial, but Tea Party-like views and has plenty of name recognition.

I am watching McDaniel's speech right now, and before this I've never heard him speak before.

Now he's bitching about voter fraud and Democrats voting in the primary. Seriously, such a gem of a speech.

Back in NY-13, AP hasn't called it and Espaillat isn't conceding because __________.

McDaniel doesn't concede and implies that he's taking it to court.

And McDaniel's accent is obviously fake for those of you without a Southern ear.

Harry, it may just be my unfamiliarity with Mississippi's peculiarities, but does McDaniel have a fairly unique accent? It's not like most Southern accents I've heard. It's almost Irish - is that because of his personal background, or does the Pine Belt have its own thing?

Edit: or is he just faking it?

AP likes to be 99.99% sure before calling a race.  What's out is in Inwood and Marble Hill.  Espaillat is winning Inwood.  Marble Hill is a huge question mark.

Plus, absentees haven't been counted yet.

"This is a fight we had to have."
"I want to thank you for standing with me." - "I'm still standing."
"But we are not prone to surrendering, Mississippians."

Spoken like a real Confederate general. Wink

Watching the video of McDaniel's speech does give me a sense of affinity toward him.  I realized that he and I are born in the same year and we both seem to have a son about the same age.
