IIRC, three women were raped at different points. '99 was awful, and it destroyed any future Woodstock reunions (not that there should have been any to begin with). You can't just recreate an event as amazing as Woodstock '69.

An absolute disaster. Beyond the obvious issues (fires, rapes, etc.), the music was at least 80% abysmal.

Some of the "bands and musical artists" who were allowed to play at it for some reason:

- Insane Clown Posse
- DMX
- The Offspring
- Korn
- Bush
- Everclear
- Kid Rock
- Wyclef Jean
- Counting Crows
- Dave Matthews Band
- Limp Bizkit
- Our Lady Peace
- Sevendust
- Godsmack
- Everlast
- Creed
- Muse (must have been like 12 at the time...)

Woodstock '94 was a joke as well but at least did have quite a few good artists and performances. 1999 was easily one of the worst years for mainstream music ever.

Well Kid Rock's okay, but I either hate or know nothing about all the others.

I actually remember Woodstock 94 but was too young to appreciate any of the music or really get all the hype. But I watched some shows on MTV at the time so I heard all about it. So I didn't have much an opinion of it (it was something that "cool high school kids" were into.)

Woodstock 99 was kind of an awkward time, since it coincided with me getting the internet and entering high school...and I remember distinctly hearing all about the rapes and security disaster issues, but also how awful MTV's coverage was. Since pay per view had got the rights to all the acts and performances, at best on MTV you got like 5 seconds of one which was then cut to Carson Daly interviewing some morons in attendance or some guy at a merch booth or doing tattoos.

Whatever the case I think I can safely say that Dude Fest '07 and '09 blew both it and Woodstock '94 out of the water. I bet even Eraserhead would agree.

Probably nothing, I'm sure it was awesome, but I wasn't able to attend that one. '07 and '09 are the two I attended.

I actually remember checking in to Dude Fest '07 pretty vividly. I was 23, not old by any standard, but I wasn't some idealistic high schooler or college student either (I was actually about to enter my final year of college after the summer, but we all know what the "Lazy College Senior" meme is and what that phase was like and that epitomized me at the time.) But I had kind of a strange realization as I stood in that brief line to get my name and my pre-purchased ticket checked off. This was it. Here I was four states away in a city I had never been to before, all for this. And I realized that I had been shaped in a true way. It wasn't just like me being that kid in high school downloading mp3s of crazy underground bands on Napster, or that college freshman who was thrilled beyond all belief that he could now actually buy vinyl in a store in the downtown of the city he lived in, or that college sophomore/junior sitting in his dorm/apartment on a Saturday afternoon listening to the new records that just came in the mail wondering if anyone would be doing anything tonight or if everyone had went home this weekend true to the "suitcase college" reputation. Because really anyone can do that, anyone can pirate mp3s or even buy vinyl. Hell even heading out to Minneapolis or Sioux Falls for an event and then heading back home the same night is something just about everyone in Mankato has done before more than once. But I had actually done something that went way beyond all that, beyond what most people have done, and really there was no escaping it now, this whole scene  had shaped me and it's influence on me was unshakable. I could forget and renounce the whole thing in a month, but that still wouldn't change the fact that I did this just like how a deserter is still a veteran. It was kind of a strange feeling.

I should revive my memoirs thread.

There's a reason that in 2009 they did an anniversary show not under the Woodstock name.

Anyway, had they not charged such high prices or invited insane bands it would have done better.

By the way, did anyone perform at all three Woodstocks?
