I ruined my voice by doing a pretty dead-on impression of Tom Waits for my best friend today, and then strained it further when Tom Waits was mentioned on Jeopardy when my dad and I were watching it.

Freedom Band. I think their peak in my esteem was probably Sam's Town; I haven't really been following what they've done since then.

Esk responds – “I think we would be totally in the right to do it. That goes against some parts of libertarianism, I realize, and I’m largely libertarian, but ignoring as a nation things that are worthy of death is very remiss.”

LOL?
Wannabe-libertarian dregs like him bring true libertarians into disrepute.

Depends on the political views in question, especially because most people in my family never cared much about politics.  My mom is moderate to liberal on most issues but considers herself an independent.  She voted for President Obama twice (the only person I know of in my immediate family who ever voted for him) and talks like a liberal.  But she seems rather respectful of my right-leaning views anyway.  (I'm an anomaly in that my views are actually more conservative than hers.)  She never formally identified with any political party, but I know she worked for Dukakis in 1988.

Most others in my immediate family consider themselves independent but seem to lean Republican, which is quite a reversal of where they were 10-15 years ago.  When I was born, most of them were independents but, in all likelihood, leaned Democrat.  One of my aunts (with whom I am very close) was a VERY liberal Democrat for most of her youth, probably even more liberal than I am conservative.  She's told me before how she supported democratic socialism, along with organizations like PETA and Greenpeace.  She voted Democrat in every presidential election from Mondale in 1984 (her first presidential vote) all the way through Gore in 2000.  Since then, however, her views have become more conservative, and she's voted for the GOP in every presidential contest since then, starting with Bush in 2004.

Probably largely because American patriotism is far more individualistic and capitalistic than the varying forms of European nationalism-hence gaudy rubbish such as American flag bikinis being considered a sign of showing one's devotion to the country. Note also the fact that the United States is one of the few countries where the national anthem is regularly sung by individuals rather than a choir.

I lived next to a Brownback for President supporter in 2007. He had a huge, massive sign that obstructed the view of the four-way stop on the corner. As a libertarian I did not resort to calling the authorities nor did I deface the sign. I simply waited for the Brownback campaign to die out. When it did the sign was down and I did a jig of joy in my mind. I had never been more excited to see a presidential campaign end.
Sam Brownback had supporters?

Isn’t it also somewhat common for vending machines to include used panties from school girls in Japan? The CNN article I read last week mentioned that, but it didn’t mention if that was going to be banned as well.

You could find such things in certain seedier parts of the Kantō Plain megalopolis in the nineties and I think maybe into the first decade of this century, but it's been banned for a while now, and the idea that it was ever widespread is an urban legend. The shoddy pornography and prostitution laws have always been a much more serious and complex problem than that, although it's certainly one of the issue's more lurid manifestations. It's worth noting that most Japanese people are absolutely mortified by their country's sex industry and how much press it gets in other parts of the world.

Well, that's good. These 3 points put us in a pretty good shape to advance, so let's celebrate. Smiley Still, I hope the team's game grows more audacious next times. So many times players didn't even try to gain ground, instead sending the ball backwards.

Differs from OTL after 1896

#25: William Jennings Bryan (D-NE) / Arthur Sewall (D-ME): 1897 - 1905
The Progressive wings of both parties join in 1903 to form the People's Union. The big tent leftist party is joined by the President and the Vice President, and recieves support especially in the Midwest and West.
#26: William Joel Stone (P-MO) / William Howard Taft (P-OH): 1905 - 1909
#27: William Howard Taft (P-OH) / John Worth Kern (P-IN)*: 1909 - 1917
Conservative and pro-business forces throughout the country join together to form the American Union. The party draws equal support from conservative Democrats and Republicans, which fade into irrelevance.
#28: Alton Brooks Parker (A-NY) / John Sharp Williams (A-MS): 1917 - 1921
The Parker administration enters the ongoing European war on the side of Britain, France and Russia, to the dissatisfaction of many Progressives.
#29: Robert Marion LaFollette (P-WI)* / James Middleton Cox (P-OH): 1921 - 1925
#30: James Middleton Cox (P-OH) / Franklin Delano Roosevelt (P-NJ): 1925 - 1929
#31: Franklin Delano Roosevelt (P-NJ) / Henry Agard Wallace (P-IA): 1929 - 1937
When a great depression strikes the country in 1929, President Roosevelt soon takes succesfull measures to combat recession and unemployment.
#32: Henry Agard Wallace (P-IA) / Alf Landon (P-KS): 1937 - 1941
After nearly twenty years of People's Union presidency and unsuccesful elections, the American Union morphes into the Conservative Party in 1938. In the same time, the People's Union splits over the issue of war involvement in Europe, into the center-left, isolationist New Democratic Party, named after the old isolationist Democrats of Bryan, backed by the President; and the centrist, interventionist Liberal Party backed by the Vice President.
#33: Robert Taft (C-OH) / John Jason Sparkman (C-AL): 1941 - 1949

The 1940 Election:

Senator Robert Taft (C-OH) / Senator John Sparkman (C-AL): 376 EV's
Vice President Alf Landon (L-KS) / Senator Harry Truman (L-MO): 95 EV's
President Henry Wallace (ND-IA) / Governor Earl Warren (ND-CA): 60 EV's

To be continued...

November 5, 1974:

"Welcome back America with our 1974 Midterm Election night coverage. Right now we project that Jerry Brown, a Democrat and son of former California governor Pat Brown, has won the California gubernatorial election against Republican challenger Houston I. Flournoy. Jerry Brown will replace the current governor of California, Ronald Reagan."

Meanwhile, at Jerry Brown's campaign headquarters:

Intern: "Mr. Brown, you won the election!"

Jerry Brown: "That's nice I guess. I have bigger aspirations, but this is a good start."

Intern: "What are these bigger aspirations?"

Jerry Brown: "I want to become president!"

1. Brazil
2. India
3. China
4. Russia
You'd pick a totalitarian fascist regime over Putins hijacked form of authoritarian democracy.
And YOU would pick an aggressive, expansionist imperialist power over a staid authoritarian (NOT totalitarian) state.

Mirror, mirror on the wall...

And China isn't a fascist state by any definition of the word.

How is China not aggressive, expansionist, and imperialist?

Yes, because I can log on to the internet in Russia without fear of being pinged by the government for visiting a banned political website. Russia also does not have re-education camps in the countryside, which China to this day still has.

So yeah, Russia >>>> China. Of course, you're only basing your opinion of Russia on Pussy Riot and gay rights.
