A 2 party system would be impossible.  For instance, Alabama and Iran may agree on some social issues(though not as much as some forumites think), but the religious difference in and of itself is more than enough to create a chasm.  2 parties wouldn't be close to cutting it.

I've always pronounced it just as Be-gick, but the 2nd option I think is how it's actually pronounced. Though mispronouncing Begich's last name is nowhere near as bad as those who accidentally refer to his Senate colleague Murkowski as Mikulski. Tongue

Indeed.  Holding controversial opinions does not make one a racist.  Believe it or not, the platform of the Democratic Party is not the end-all-be-all standard of tolerance or goodness.

NEWT 2008

Good evening, fellow Americans. I'm sure you all know why I'm here, so let's get straight to the point. I have filed to run for President of the United States. I have thought long and hard about this decision. Eventually I came to the conclusion that America needed a conservative choice. That Republican voters and all American voters needed to be given the opportunity to vote for a real conservative candidate. President Giuliani has proven that he is a faux conservative, who doesn't stand up for the principles that our party has been built on. Tonight, I offer myself as that choice.

Deciding to run for the presidency is something I have not taken lightly. But I have realised the time has come for a candidate who will stand up for the ideals that matter to so many of us, fiscal responsibility, the sanctity of life, the integrity of our borders, our right to bear arms.  The list goes on.

We stand at a crossroads in America. The two paths are clear to me. One leads us down a road of division, of terrorism, of financial instability and ruin. The other leads us down a road of prosperity. I know which road I want to take and I'm sure that you all want the same. Following the vision of Ronald Reagan and others, the United States can become a better place for all. I remember back to 1994, when I was a lowly Minority Whip. Working on the Contract with America, I felt it had the chance to do some good for the country. It's been 13 years and now I feel the time has come for a new contract, one that suits the needs of 21st Century America.

As I campaign across the country, I will present a platform based on true conservative ideals, the ones that have helped make our country so great. Thank you.

Inspired by dead0man's comments in FC. I don't think people who don't want any work should be forced to work. I don't find such people very inspiring or even good, but I think in their own way that they contribute by buying goods and services on whatever level. And if they're getting government payments I don't care because I like to live in a world where people aren't forced into squalor by collective spite. And in general anyone who looks at them and then cries about "their" tax dollars being wasted on someone else's basic well-being is an insufferable ninnyhammer. If they are surviving on a relative's generosity they're only a drain on said person, which is just unfortunate, but doesn't mean they're a drain on society.

Last night, I had a dream that opebo wrote a book that became a bestseller, but I don't remember what the book was about.

I've had dreams about the Atlas Forum a couple of other times, such as when I dreamt that 20RP12 was yelling at me.

I had a dream 3 days ago that Landrieu won 82% of the vote against Cassidy in Louisiana.

Dallas

Dallas is actually one of the better cities in Texas. Plus I'd be closer to Austin (one of my favorite cities in the country).

If there were a terror in this country, it'd be conducted by the ludicrously highly-armed and widespread reactionary movement in this country. I wouldn't be rooting for a terror if I were you, it's infinitely more likely to be white than red.

Yeah, seriously. No kind of "terror" or revolution will be happening in America any time soon, but if one were to happen, it would be much more likely for it to be from the millions of gun wielding far right lunatics rather than the few thousand dialectical materialism brochure wielding communists.

Inspired by the old "Weird dreams you've had involving politicians" thread by TDAS04.

I know that most people (including me) don't typically remember their dreams, but there are those dreams that are just unforgettable, so talk about those here.

I've had plenty of dreams where I imagined myself attending school completely naked by accident, but this is a very common dream I've heard.

I also remember a dream where I woke up (in the dream) and I look in the mirror. To my surprise I was now East Asian. I go to Walmart and this guy hands me a bucket of grass. I grabbed a handful of grass from the bucket and I inserted that grass into my mouth. I started to chew the grass. To my surprise chewing grass is illegal in this world and the police start chasing me all across the store. This dream has become a running joke/gag amongst me and my friends.

How 'bout you guys?
