I should clarify that in the future to read "Republican Officeholder since the New Deal (with maybe five exceptions)=HP" Tongue

Against alcohol and marijuana prohibition. Defeated Tammany Hall. Fought the mob. Championed immigrant rights. Progressive in an era when it made sense.

It made sense when our political system was degenerating into one giant Tammany Hall, and industrialists like John D Rockefeller had fortunes worth between $400B and $600B, depending on the method used for estimation. The wealthiest 1% also tended to outlive the common man by 20 years. I can understand and appreciate populist progressivism during that era.

Today, our socio-economic problems are created by incompetent progressive regulators.

Regardless of your thoughts of when a government has accomplished its goal in accomodating for and recognizing the rights and needs of its citizens, wouldn't there have to be a theoretical point where progress was no longer needed, at least aside from the occasional technological leap?

At that point the state would be unnecessary, yes.

While I disagree on that point, it does seem you concede that there is an end to progress, at which point passing it would be in the same vein as regression.
