Probably the sole competent figure in the whole of Weimar Germany.

All I remember from his short role in my history course was that he introduced a new currency, was seen as an able statesman and then died at the worst time possible for germany

He was a particularly wily foreign statesman as well. I like him because even though he was basically a right-liberal monarchist, he realised that the German nationalist conservatives were being dumb idiots by isolating the country for no good reason. Compared with inept nits like Bruning and von Papen, guy was a hero.

And of course, his role in Dawes and Young plans. There is a reason certain events in the news made me think of the Good Chancellor.

Probably the sole competent figure in the whole of Weimar Germany.

Often portrayed as such, but that's not really true (c.f. Otto Braun etc). It's more that Stresemann was unusual in that he was an intelligent pro-democracy conservative.
