Everyone talks about "Sin of Sodom" or "Sodomy" but no one talks about Gomorrah. We never hear about "Gomorrahdy" or whatever.

What's the deal?

According to the account in Genesis, Lot lived in Sodom and the angels who went there to warn him to leave were accosted by Sodomites in the literal sense of residents of Sodom, which led to homosexuals similarly being labelled sodomites.  Since all the action takes place in Sodom, the real quest is why does Gomorrah sometimes get equal billing with Sodom but never the other two cities of the plain that were also destroyed according to the tale?  Why not Sodom and Admah or Sodom and Zeboim?

Um, because of the "sodomites"?

Yes but why "sodomites" and not "gomorrites"?

Like Ernest said, Sodom is where the relevant part of the Biblical narrative actually takes place.

"Gomorrahy" sounds cooler, though.

This, plus I suspect that because it had a shorter name and came first in the phrase "Sodom and Gommarah", it was easier for everyone to remember.

Because Gomorrah if you look at right, looks exactly like Gonorrhea?

Not to mention Sodom is so much easier to spell...

Haha, Robert Bork. His failed confirmation and Ted Kennedy's speech on it was one of the most awesome moments in the Senate history.

Not only does the narrative take place there, the narrative is preceded by a different story about Sodom (the bit where the king of Sodom loses a war and he and Lot get kidnapped and Abraham raises an army to rescue them, then snubs the king when the king offers him riches in return), and both the OT and NT callbacks to the incident don't mention Gomorrah.

Probably because Lot lived in Sodom, so most of the biblical account centers there (not to mention the term "sodomy").  Of course, Robert Bork titled his book Slouching Towards Gomorrah, so it's not entirely forgotten.

I think it is because it is just not as catchy.

Yeah, "Sodom" just has a nice ring to it.

The simplest explanation is likely the correct one. Sodom is simply an easier word to remember.
