And now, for some comic relief.

As introduced by, ahem, Sen. Naso:

The Firearm Cooling Off Act

Clause 1-
Any person who purchases a firearm must have an 18-day ''cooling off'' period before they can own the firearm.

Clause 2-
This law shall be forced in all states in Atlasia.

Clause 3-
Any person who is selling firearms without enabling the ''cooling off' period should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law (SEE CLAUSE 4).

I hereby open debate on this bill.

Since there is no Clause 4 for readers to see, I recommend this amendment to the bill:

Clause 4-
This bill shall permanently expire 15 seconds after being signed into law.

Good, but you could also just vote 'Nay'.

But that would deprive the country of that glorious 15 seconds.

Come on guys, this is Naso's first piece of legislation.  Just because this particular issue has already inspired a group of leading Atlasians to form a massive pressure group that has vowed to remove him from office at whatever cost, doesn't mean we should write off this particular bill as a joke.

Yet.

Be nice.  The cooling off period is a perfectly valid idea, and is in place at both the federal and local levels.  Debate the issue on the merits, folks.

Nothing has changed.  I am still against this.  This bill will only make more victims.

Just so I know, does anyone know what the current "cooling off period" is?  I recall that we already had one, but I forget how long it is.

I think it is 10 days.

Federal law mandates at least 5 days under the Brady Bill.  States may have stricter laws, and there amy have been a subsequent extension of the cooling off period I'm not familiar with.

Thanks, John.

Well, I see no reason why we need to make it longer than that.

This will just lead to more people who need guns not getting them.  I think the current shorter period is fine and I will vote against this.

Voting is now open.

All senators in favor, vote "aye" (hint: don't); all senators against (that means you), vote "nay".

Nay.
