Well, gay people face more barriers in places like the South and are probably more likely to stay in the closet. I would assume that a larger number of gays elsewhere don't "need" porn because it's easier to get the real thing.

There are several possibilities that could distort the numbers, the most obvious one being that perhaps Southern consumers of straight porn prefer to use another site for their internet porn than Pornhub.  We already have anecdotal evidence from Oklahoma that some Southerners still prefer to pay for their internet porn than get it for free.

A survey is not necessarily going to accurately represent homosexuality in a population.  That's something many people lie about.   

Here's an alternate hypothesis:

Homosexuality is basically evenly distributed among race/ethnic groups.  However, more white people are in the closet because of family pressure and hasty marriages.  Think about it, a higher percentage of black people have broken families and there's less marriage in the black community.  Black women, perhaps, are also more likely to come to terms with their orientation because so many black men are either in prison or severely economically disadvantaged.

There does seem to be a positive correlation between minority presence and incidence of homosexual porn usage.  If the amount of gay porn watched "increases" with a state's conservatism then it would seem to me that states like Montana and North Dakota would also have very high rates of gay porn usage.

Also, as noted above, there are several things that could account for this coincidence, such as heterosexual porn watchers in the South preferring other sites. 

Another explanation could be that heterosexual people in the South are less likely to watch porn thus meaning that homosexuals in those areas constitute a higher percentage of all porn users.

This is just one survey, so I'd imagine the actual numbers that watch gay porn are higher than the percentages listed here. However, I seriously laughed when I saw that Mississippi has the highest rate according to this survey.
