Castro and it's not a particularly difficult choice.

It's slightly less offensive to seek to kill and oppress people over something they can control (like being rich) than to kill and oppress people over something they can't control (being black).

Castro.

racist patriot vs egalitarian despot

I'll choose Davis since clairvoyant hindsight allows me to see that slavery would have been economically impossible by the 20th century, regardless of who one the war.

You do realize that voting for one murderous asshole dictator over another one is not an endorsement of him of his views in any way, shape, or form, right?

Speaking as a Cuban-American who is very much not a fan of his brand of socialism, easily Castro.

Did Davis really make things any worse than they already were with regards to slavery? The institution of slavery in the South was going to be terrible and oppressive irrespective of Davis's leadership (which was pretty bad). Of course, he obviously did make things worse through inflation, instituting a draft, misguided attempts to manage the economy, and poor diplomacy at certain points, but in regard to most of those things I think we can agree that Castro was worse.

Davis fought for the enslavement of a large group of people, and he fought for the system that often murdered blacks for "not knowing their place".
