For at least 2 of them, FL-13 was the last straw.

Hmm. There are relatively few House Democrats who are both "veterans" and "facing tough 2014 races". And the filing deadline for two of them - Nick Rahall and John Barrow - has already come and gone. The most logical guess would be Collin Peterson; his retirement has been rumored for months. After him my guess would be Tim Bishop or Jim Costa, or perhaps John Tierney (though his electability issues have nothing to do with his district).

EDIT: California deadline passed; can't be Costa.

Without Bishop will the Dems be able to hold NY-01? I think it will be probably a Toss-Up Race if Bishop does retire. I know its been a little of a swingy district over the years.

Rahall's already filed, and Peterson doesn't seem likely.

Worst case scenario is Tim Bishop, best case scenario is some old-timer in a safe seat (Jim McDermott, Sander Levin, David Price, ect.)

Peterson and Bishop would be the only ones possibly fitting the category of a tough race and veteran House Dem, who have not yet announced what they are going to do. Am I missing anything?

Peterson said he was running at the end of last month, but I guess could change his mind.

Hopefully he's a team player and leaves this open in 2016 instead. I mean, he didn't vote for Obamacare, so that should help this year.

Only other option is Tierney.

Tierney would make things easier for Democrats.

What about Walz? Would 4 terms be considered 'veteran'?

Doubt it. Besides, he's completely safe for re-election.

Probably bs from CNN. It certainly wouldn't be their first screw-up.

Why is everyone assuming it will be someone in a competitive district?

Peterson will make his plans official Monday.

Considering this and the fact that he's still playing cat and mouse, my money's on him being one of the incumbents.

Where did it say it would be a competitive district? All the article indicates is that there could be more retirements, but didn't say from where.

Yeah, this sounds like retirement to me.

EDIT: The Star Tribune is leaning towards him running again. I guess we'll see: http://www.startribune.com/politics/statelocal/250542371.html

This was also based on stuff before the election.

Congrats, Congressman Westrom.

From RRH: The mayor of Rochester, Lovely Warren, is meeting with the DCCC.

Slaughter might be retiring.
