No word on how long he may have left or what he's dying of, but apparently he's in hospice care in Kansas and the estranged children aren't allowed to see him.

I'm more intrigued by the fact that Fred was apparently excommunicated from the church. The reason for that is unknown at this point.

Considering the only members of the church are his own offspring, this is quite the coup.

Could it be that he was softening a bit internally and his kids turned on him for it?
Or negatively,  perhaps a sex scandal.

I've always assumed that Phelps is secretly gay, and maybe the church he created realized this?

People like Fred Phelps have done more damage to Christianity than Richard Dawkins can dream of.

Does this mean that God hates people similarly afflicted at the end of life?  Whatever else you think, please don't fall into Fred Phelps' error of thinking disease is always a sign of God's displeasure.  Besides, at the end of the day, God loves us all, even one such as Fred Phelps who has no doubt caused God much disappointment and who has done his best to be unlovable.

Why do we have two threads on Fred Phelps?

Because Mr. Phelps had an impact upon both U.S. events (largely by causing disgust and the passing of laws to limit where and when he and his followers could emit his virulent hate) and religion (since he claimed that was what motivated him.  If he were to be limited to one board, this is probably the best one, since few would agree his hate was religious.

I bet Nate will be happy. His life was hell as a kid because of his father, but even with all that propaganda, hatred, and total BS he heard as a kid, he went onto become a LGBT rights advocate. Fred crossed the line though when he picketed the funeral of Matthew Shepard. There's so much hate and homophobia from doing stuff like that and he might as well have just joined the KKK to. I don't wish death on anybody no matter how bad they are (and heck, I would even vote for Brownback over this guy), but before he dies, he should really revaluate his life of just pure hatred and disgust.

Because, as I already said, Fred Phelps was a very effective attention whore.

Then why has Fred Phelps never posted here?  Oh.  Right.  You said "effective" attention whore.  That explains it.

He'll get eaten by worms, digested and turned into worm sh**t. He'll then be used as fertilizer to grow grass that will be eaten by a cow that is later killed and made into various cuts of meat. This meat will be cooked and eaten by homosexuals and digested, turning into yet more sh**t that will churn through bowels that are sometimes used in ways that he spent too much life pointlessly decrying. Forever and ever, amen.
