In a group marriage, if you have one man and two women, if the man dies are the women still married?

I guess it depends on the nature of the marriage. Really, all marriages should get a pre-nup, but I feel it might especially be important for group marriages.

At this point, support. I never had any moral issue with them, although I thought they might be problematic to set up legally. But the Northeast seems to have found a way to make them work, so I have no reason to oppose them.

On the one hand, I support marriage equality and generally believe in the philosophy "live and let live." On the other, I feel like there's a lot of potential for abuse in group marriages.

I bet this is one of those weirdo issues where if you break it down by party, each result more or less looks like this poll at-large.

As I've said, absolutely not. The legal entanglements are potentially problematic, I see all sorts of potential social problems and cultish types abusing it, and I ultimately think it's something regressive badly masquerading as something progressive, which it is not.

Who has how many sex partners is not my concern, but marriage is both a legal and economic arrangement. So a resounding no.

I see all sorts of types abusing monogamous marriage, and I haven't seen calls to ban civil unions yet. Furthermore, it's unconscionable to deny rights to certain people because of the paperwork.

And you want to multiply it?! Okay.

Furthermore, it's unconscionable to deny rights to certain people because of the paperwork.

It's more than paperwork, it would involve legal addresses as pertaining to divorce rights. What a mess it would be. You have a fivesome that's married, and two want divorces, or all, for different reasons.

My God. The divorce attorneys would love that!

This is SILLY!

Wait, so you're saying that because some of a certain class of marriages are abusive, all of that class of marriage should be banned?

Are divorce lawyers somehow subhuman? The divorce lawyer lobby would like a word with you on that. And I see no reason why divorce law can't be extrapolated out to group marriages - what if you and I were married and I wanted a divorce but you didn't? That wouldn't be the tidiest of affairs, would it? Now, I'm not a divorce lawyer, so I'll refrain from discussing the minutiae of this particular aspect of the issue and restate my main point:

Even if this creates more legal hassle, isn't it worth it to grant these rights to people?

Nope - I think it's a bit of an administrative/legal nightmare. Same-sex marriage is a cake-walk next to this.

Logically and ethically, probably - but I'm not going to fly a flag for the sake of it.

So you're saying that those things are all equally as bad as three people wanting to marry each other? And if so, may I ask why?
