It has a lot for both options going for it. On the one hand it's in a state known for being hideously boring, it's surrounded by nothing, you have to drive three and a half hours if you want to go to some place actually cool (aka where I am now) and it's full of suburban sprawl and chain store strip malls. And it has a lot of right wing politics.

On the other hand it's now big enough to actually have desirable amenities if you ignore all the boring suburban parts, it's full of local and independent businesses at a disproportionate rate than most places, it even has places like organic food co-ops, it actually has an activist movement and counterculture, it's far more walkable than most cities in the area and almost all Twin Cities suburbs even if it's public transit needs some work, and it's actually a Lean D city even if you include all the essentially rural and suburban parts of the city proper. And it's got a decent scene now. Why else was I at a show there Friday? Plus it has at least one band with national recognition (Tiny Moving Parts), and now whenever there's a big show here we have at least one crew coming in from there.

So I'll say FC. I had a good time there both Friday and Monday though for different reasons.

I think it'd be fun to see an NDSU game at the Fargodome.

Winters there seem absolutely horrifying and there are better places on the planet to spend your summers in. But the people there are probably relatively attractive.

New to this forum, if not the site (I've been making maps here for ever)... I guess there is no where better to start than here...

North Dakota is a terrible awful place. South Dakota is Best Dakota.

Does anyone actually remember the movie? It's barely set there.

But it's all the same--cold, white, people talk funny.  Some places have more buildings, some have less.  Personally, I've never been closer to Fargo than Brainerd or Bemidji whichever is closer.  I'm sure Fargo is a FC as long as I don't have to live there.

No that's not true at all. Fargo's the type of place where you can walk into a grocery store and walk past both a Somali and a Hispanic women with a big chestpiece tattoo and a necklace that says "DOPE" while walking down one aisle (actual experience yesterday.) Also describing the area as "cold" basically ignores the existence of 8 months of the year.

Sounds like a generic Northern regional center.

I have a hard time believing Fargo's only cold four months of the year.

You probably have a warped definition of "cold".

Well, he has a Californian definition of weather. Californian weather is utterly boring and similar all year.
