Vegetarianism/veganism is the worst thing white people have ever invented.

If you like strokes, high blood pressure, hypertension, fat, cholesterol, etc. Roll Eyes

Eating meat is perfectly healthy.  It doesn't cause high blood pressure or high LDL cholesterol.  That's sort of a myth based on the misconception that eating fat makes you fat.

The AHA disagrees with you - decidedly.

That eating fats does not make you fat is kind of funny, actually. The question is whether or not the fat in question is a 'good' fat. An avocado is a good fat. A banana is a good fat. A jelly doughnut is not. A porterhouse is not. They'll all make you fat, but the first two won't give you a stroke.

And for goodness sakes, drop the pizza and ice cream. Tongue

As pointed out above, every year more data comes out disproving the lipid hypothesis when it comes to heart disease.  I think the more recent data shows that many types of vegetable fats are way worse than animal fats.  For example, lard and clarified butter are way healthier than something like corn oil or rapeseed oil.

But, I think the larger point is that your body and your blood work demonstrate if you're healthy or not.  If your diet is giving you bad results and you're fat, it's unhealthy.  Personally, I eat lots of meat and I have perfect blood work and a 30 inch waist.  I'm pretty sure I'm healthy.

This is correct. We eat too much poorly prepared food.

And of course, forgive Lief. I don't think he's actually technically white but whatever.

I just eat. I don't really categorise it into a 'style'.

Hah. "I'm a gay Scottish atheist Torie! Look at me!!!"

You are one of the forum's biggest attention whores and clearly obsessed with style & image. You think you can just dismiss other peoples opinions and values based that principle? Again... Hah.

Omnivorous, although I don't eat meat that much. I should probably become a vegetarian since eating meat is obviously ethically unjustifiable but I don't pretend to be particularly moral.

I eat meat, like my ancestors before me, and as the good lord intended. Vegetarianism/veganism is the worst thing white people have ever invented.

Amen, brother Lief.  Cheesy
I agree.  I'm a total hypocrite because I get all bent out of shape seeing animals suffer and then I change the channel and dig into my steak.

More should be done to treat animals for slaughter more humanely.  If it means higher production costs for meat, then maybe we can find some money to help offset this price increase for the majority of us.  It is possible to eat lots of meat and not go out of your way to be cruel to animals (I don't consider a quick death for slaughter to be inhumane).

So yeah.. this is an issue that causes all kinds of cognitive dissonance in me.

Whether meat is healthy or not, the way we produce it, from the animal to the table, is a very nasty process.

Water supplies being poisoned by fertilizer and monopolized by feedlot cattle. Animals being abused by farm workers. Slaughterhouse employees working in dehumanizing, unsafe conditions. It's all very shameful.

Perhaps some of it is inevitable and maybe the alternative of producing less meat and poultry has its own negative consequences. But while vegetarianism may not be "natural", neither is eating animal protein three times a day, as many Americans feel they are entitled to do.

Perhaps, although I'm a bit skeptical toward the paleo diet. In any case, living an enjoyable life is far more important than living a long one.

I don't know how it could get better than eating lots of meat and fish...

Nothing wring with that. I just also sometimes want things like bread and potatoes. Wink

You powers of observation are astounding and unmatched. Have a toffee. Roll Eyes

What do you want me to be? Another straight, American nominally Christian Democrat like 2/3rds of the forum? But of course. I was born gay and Scottish just to make an image statement...
