In keeping with Cathcon's precedent, I've granted two votes. However, I took Harrison out of the running, since that would essentially just be a re-vote of the 1880 election - I hope that doesn't seem unreasonable.

Three days.

Gibson/Van Wyck, though I don't particularly care who becomes VP.

Gibson/Sewall, though like Alfred, I don't care who becomes VP. I just want a Radical president.

Crap, forgot to vote for Vice-President.  If Gibson has one more vote than his running mate, that should verify it (he does right now).  I would've voted for Van Wyck, ftr.

Gah, the fact that we Radicals were SO CLOSE to getting a president from our party after 40 years but are now denied once again is really frustrating.

As mentioned before, I will allow for a unity ticket in the next election (though with some repercussions, naturally.)

Calm down - we've got more time for the votes to flood in.

True, though it looks like Cassius Clay is winning so far. Ah well, there's always 1884.

Gibson/Harrison if Clay wins?

Nah, I gave dallasfan some ideas for new candidates for 1884 and beyond the other day.

Ah. All right, then (although having Gibson as President makes it a bit better of a deal for the Whigs, seeing as he dies in 1888).

I was hoping for something like Butler/Kearny myself so as to cement the new union as a populist outfit.

Butler would be good, yeah, but I'm not a fan of Kearney. Butler/Harrison maybe?

What about one of the OTL Silver Republicans like Henry M. Teller of Colorado?

By the way, note to the author, might this possibly be a chance to trigger some sort of realignment? Not sure how long the current system, which has been in effect since 1852, can last. 1888/92 holds promise...

The realignment's already starting - the Radicals and the Whigs are on the verge of combinance. And assuming Garfield hasn't died by now, perhaps we could have Butler/Garfield?

So, a Union v. Radical big tent parties face off for the next few cycles? At least if the Whigs collapse.

I was hoping for sort of a populist "American Labor" party to emerge, provided that it didn't win, of course. Given that, with a combination of pro-business Union policies and Lincoln's tariffs our industry should be chugging along nicely (though probably not as well as it was in real life at this point, though our earlier civil war could probably negate that) in time to start some sort populist, pro-labor movement. Meanwhile, farmers have their own grievances as industry in the East rises.

I do enjoy populist labor parties.
